Fentanyl

I have recently began using Fentanyl 50mcg/hr Transdermal Patches. Previously I had been taking 80mg of Oxycontin bid as well as 10mg of Percocet tid to control breakthrough pain. My physician at that time discontinued the Oxycontin and Percocet cold turkey. Te next month of my life was pure hell and I believe I almost died. The resulting health issues were a kidney infection; bladder infection; UTI as well as severe dehydration with associative muscle cramping. My total weight loss was 60lbs. I am concerned with the possible and eventual withdrawal from the Fentanyl. Is the withdrawal as rough as Oxycontin? I have several questions but I will start with this one for now. The short answer... Yes.  It's just as difficult as Oxycontin.  OC / Heroin / Fentanyl ... It's all the same.

Why are you on it in the first place if you don't mind me asking?

I dont think its as hard to come off of than OC.. However.. I would probally die or shoot myself (hehe) if I had to cold turkey this patch.. Like they say,, its a strong medication and its in the same class as herion. I read last night that its 100 times more potent that morphine.. They use one type of it in Vet medicine that is 10,000 times what a huamn dose is the article said for large animals when they have to put them under.. Its a drug that has been used since the 60's to put people to sleep for surgery I read.. I know this.. I want free from it and to have a freaking life again.. I hate this posion.. I dont know what your pain is but please take notice of what mine is and I had rather suffer the pain..

I have been on Duragesic patch (Fentanyl) 100 mcg/hr for 6 years. I have gotten so sick of the side effects I began to taper off it 4 mnths ago.. I went from 100 to 75 stayed there 4 months then dropped to 50 about 1 month ago.. Last week I went to 25mcg/hr. I advise is no matter what your pain is.. GET OFF THIS PATCH.. If you think you cant eat now.. you wait until that patch really kicks in,.. you will be able to go for days and never want anything to eat or drink.. I am so glad to be down off it.. 100-75 drop was hard.. 75-50 I never felt a thing,, the 50-25 has had me sort of sick since this past wed.. I feel a lot better today.. Just no engery and such.. I am going really slow and if i need a little I take or put a patch on early.. I made a mistake and took a patch off 3 weeks ago and in 8 hours was in w/d with RLS and aches. It took the patch about 5 hours to catch back up once I got one on.. Again.. my side effects were severe loss of appetite,, contipation was horrible,, had to take something everyday for  years.. Depression.. I did not know what the word meant until I got on this patch.. I feel so much better at 25 and plan to drop to 12.5 and not sure if I will come off and try Celebrax or other NSAID or what.. I do know this.. it will not be a narcotic.. I had rather die from the pain.. (hip problem ) Hope this helps..

Fentanyl is a very very strong drug and very hard to get off of..They will usually use Fent. for terminal patients. I would use the patch when i would do surgay on an animal that was a VERY painful surgary and would only use it at the most for a wk. My mom was dying of cancer and that is what i had to put on her and it made her see things. Its nothin to mess around with. Be careful.

Fentanyl is worse than oxy. PM (private message) Jacqui805. Also look in her journals to see her battle to get free. 21 days of agony.
