Vicodin Withdrawal

I have been on vicodin for 3 years (10/325) generally taking something between 3 and 5 a day. On Monday I started a severe taper down which started withdrawal symptoms. I was at 15 to 20mg a day. I went to my doctor on Fri. to see if there was anything else to do but continue the taper down and quit. He said I could continue the tapering,do inpatient treatment or just cold turkey and quit, gave me the taper schedule for the next 13 days and sent me on my way.

Strangely.. right after I left the doctors office the severe withdrawal symptoms stopped. It has been over 25 hours since I took any vicodin. I am feeling the things that had me start them in the first place (which I expected to, its all chronic health issues) and some queasiness but thats about it. I even slept 12 hours last night.

So my question is, is it really getting better or will the hardcore symptoms return?  I don't have that craving that I see so many people talking about, I have a full bottle of them sitting here, I just feel the pain returning.

I have Multiple Sclerosis and a tailbone injury so that is why my doctor prescribed the Lortab. I was taking 4 of those a day and I stopped cold turkey 11 days ago. My Wd's were challenging and did cause my MS to flare up a bit but it will pass. Good luck to you. You are at the right place.

I have crohn's disease and something weird going on in my back, I was referred into pain management by both a GI and a spine surgeon. I have a new GI now, and there is a new treatment out for crohn's that cant be given with any opiate. I would prefer to try to "fix" the real issue than cover it up.. hopefully it works.

Welcome to the forum. YES, it will get better, normally the worst of the w/d's last about 4-6 days and then things will improve for most. Your so lucky to not be having cravings, they are so hard.

Look in the top right of this page in the health pages. In there you will find the thomas recipe which can help ease w/d's a lil. What is the reason you started on them?  Congrats on over a day clean, stay strong and it will get better soon. Best of luck.
