dependance responsibility

Would a prescribing doctor be legally or at least ethically responsible for their patients addiction to pain killers?
I shattered my tibial plateau and had several surgeries to implant metal plates to reconstruct the bone.  It was followed by a vert long very painful recovery and physical rehab.  As a result I've been taking 250 to 300 mgs of hydrocodone a day for 1.5 years.  I can't function with out it.  With it I'm completely normal.  Without it I've never been sicker.  I can't sustain the supply I need anymore without risking big legal trouble.  I'm already lying to doctors and pharmacists to keep me in pills.  If I were to level with my sergeon wouldn't he have to help me.  Its not completely his fault, but I think he bears the lions share of responsibilty for my health and welfare.  Thoughts?

When you cross over the line to abuse. The Dr is not responsible at all. Do talk to the Dr and see what they say. I beg to differ that you are functioning 'normal' on 300mg per day. The reason I say that. As you get off them for a while you will be very surprised how many mistakes etc.. you made while on the drugs. They mess with you big time.

No the doctor is not legally responsible.. when they prescribe medicine to us the assume that we are going to take them they way that we should, as they directed on the bottle.  Now I know that there are doctor out there that will prescribe anything just to get money.  Talk to your doctor about what is going on, they may be able to help you.

he is nither legally or ethically reliable for your addiction but morally he might feel that way so talk ot him he can help you and most will as long as you are up front and honest but you have already started the seeking of meds the lieing so that right there makes him unresponsible for your addiction. you are not in the dependance mode any more ounce you start the lieing and trickery to get the meds that is addictin or dependancy there is a deferance from being dependent to the meds and that is the seeking and lieing to get the meds and dr. shoping is illegal for narcotics so you need to ask for help.
