desperate to get off of methadon

I have been weaning from methadon for the last 6months 2.5 ml every week I have gone from200ml to 120ml now. I am very discouraged as I feel crappy all of the time (withdrawls ) even  tapering such low amount. At the rate I am going Im looking at least another years of this. Since on Methadon Ive gained 80 pounds ( never had weight issues ever),I had a tooth fall out and 3/4 of another tooth chip(never had teeth problems) I use to have a colgate smile and now I have a smile like the picture of the teeth on the Canadian cigarette packs. I have cronic constipation and my skin is so dry its peeling off. Anyone looking for a girlfriend HA HA just kidding, I sound like a real catch eh!!. Anyways I am so tired all of the time and have to force myself to do anything. I don't mean to be a downer but this is my reality of being on Methadon for the last 4 years. Don't get me wrong Methadon safed my life 4years ago, but I really have cleaned up my life. I had to drop all of my using friends and  start a whole new life with me and my kids. I do feel ready to come off, but I am discouraged. I was wondering if anyone has switch from Methadon to buproiphine(not sure the spelling) to get off of opoids. I heard the withdrawl symptoms are not as dramic as the meth and it can be done alot quicker  then coming off the meth. It is not as hard on your body as the methadon is.  If anyone can relate or knows anything about Bupoiprophine please email
Thanks

Dont give up! This is something that requires patience & support, Im almost done with my taper, its taken almost one year to detox off of 90mgs & as of next week Im thru with methadone, & I also must add that every day is different when detoxing, I,ve had some bad times when I just wanted to throw in the towel & say, I give up! But I never did, I took the bull by the horns & ran with it! I must advise that going slow is the key, I went very slow & for that reasons had very mild withdrawals, now Im at such a low dose that I think Im past all the physical stuff & trust me when I say, I,ve paid my dues to my detox, as it wasnt always easy, nor does it have to be horrible, just take it slow & make sure you are plugged in with some support. Thanks Penelope

I know what you mean about being desperate to get off.  My husband has been on methadone for about 14 years and it's his fondest wish to be drug free.  He too has gained about 60 pounds on the methadone.  He has been on 120 mgs and is starting to slowly taper down.  Right now he's on 100 mg.  There are several people on the forum that could give you really good advice about what vitamins and supplements you could take to help with and greatly reduce the withdrawals.  Feohmoon has posted a list of the supplements they're taking.  They're a couple who did a slow taper and then jumped off at 7 mgs about 2 weeks ago.  They're an inspiration to me.  Penelope is down to 3 mgs and counting.  I'm sure she would have some good advice for you too.
From what I've read, the methadone depletes your body of certain vitamins and minerals and replacing those minerals can reduce withdrawal and help with post acute withdrawal symptoms, such as depression, brain fog, etc.
I hope someone else will jump on with more specific recommendations for you.  I've only been reading this forum for a couple weeks and already I've learned a lot.  My advice is to keep reading and asking questions - you'll get a lot of good advice.

yes you can go on the bup but you have to be down to 30mg of methadone and then go into  withdrawals for the next few days before you get on it.  If  you get on too soon It would make you very sick.  I am on methadone and am tappering down about 2.5mg a week. Maybe you should do a faster drop in the beginning and then go down slower from 50mg.  There are alot of people here doing the same thing and there are alot of vitamins, amino acids, calmag and other things people can tell you to take that will help you with the withdrawals.  Are you at a clinic or your doctor?  Anyway it is doable and there is alot of support here. Also when you get down farther in mg you wont want to eat and you will loose some weight!  One good thing about withdrawals?

You should pm skippysiezmore. She just went through the battle with methodone. I'm sure she will be on here to give you some advice. I myself don't really know anything about. Their are others that do that will help. Best of luck to you!
