HELLO:   MY NAME IS RITA AND I AM ADDICTED TO OXYCONTIN! I'VE BEEN TO REHAB AND METHADONE BEFORE. NOTHINGS WORKED FOR ME SO FAR. I HAD BACK SURGERY AND HAVE TMJ PROBLEMS WITH MY JAW! I'VE BEEN ADDICTED TO OXYCONTIN REALLY BAD SINCE 2003. BEFORE THAT I WAS ADDICTED TO FIURENAL, ATIVAN, TYLENOL 1 AND 3'S. GOES WAY BACK! I QUIT THOSE COLD TURKEY EXCEPT FOR I FORGOT, PERCOCET WHICH I WENT ON METHADONE FOR BUT I QUIT THE METHADONE TO SOON. WAS CLEAN FOR 10 MTHS THOUGH AND HAD CARRY'S AFTER ABOUT 6MTHS. NOW THEY WANT ME TO GO ON SUBOXONE WHICH I DISAGREE WITH SINCE IT'S ANOTHER SUBSTITUTE AND I'VE HIT ROCK BOTTOM AND THINKING ABOUT IT MAKES ME FEEL ILL. ANYWAYS, I COULD GO ON AN ON! CAN I TAPER OFF THIS CRAP SAFELY? I HAVE SOMEONE WHO WILL STAY WITH ME SINCE IM NEWLY SEPERATED AND IN BIG TROUBLE! CAN I GET MY DOCTOR TO GIVE ME SOMETHING STRONG SO I CAN SLEEP THROUGH MOST OF IT FOR ABOUT A WEEK? WHAT ABOUT THE WAISMAN METHOD, TELL ME ABOUT THAT, DOES IT WORK AND HOW MUCH? I" FROM SUDBURY, ONTARIO, CANADA. PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME. I FEEL LOST AND SCARED TO GO OFF. CAN I DIE FROM DOING IT THIS WAY. HOW LONG WILL THE WITHDRAWALS LAST IF I TAPER OFF SLOWLY? I DON'T WANT TO GO TO REHAB, I"VE MADE MY NEW HOME INTO MY OWN LITTLE REHAB. EVEN HAVE A SAUNA. MY DAUGHTER SAYS SAUNA"S ARE GREAT TO DETOX. SHE'S A MASSAGE THERAPIST IN CANMORE ALBERTA. TOO BAD SHE DOES'NT LIVE HERE CAUSE MASSAGE IS REALLY GOOD TO I HEAR! THE RESTLESS LEGS USUALLY MAKES ME CRAZY. CLONODINE DOES NOT WORK FOR ME, NOT ONE BIT. WHAT ELSE IS THERE I COULD USE ONLY FOR THAT WITHDRAWAL PERIOD. SINCE MY ADDICTION BASICALLY STARTED FROM MY DOCTOR CAN I SUE PURDUE PHARMACEUTICALS. I HEARD SOME PEOPLE ARE AND THE BIG TOP GUN IS NOW IN JAIL. HEARD ALSO THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE WINNING. SOME WIN OVER CIGARETTE'S SO.....WHAT ABOUT CLASS ACTION LAW SUITS? OKAY, I HAVE LOTS MORE TO TALK ABOUT BUT LETS' START HERE FIRST. AGAIN PLEAS DON'T DISGARD ME, I NEED A MIRACLE HERE.                                                                                                          THANKS, RITA

Hi Rita!  Yes, this is some really good advice you got so far.  I am currently doing a taper off my oxycodones.  My script was written to take 6 a day and they were the 7.5/325  It didn't take long for me to get out of control with them and I was taking at least 10 of them a day...and two weeks ago, I started my taper.  My first appt. we decided to cut me down to 5 a day for two weeks and I go in to see my Dr. tomorrow and we will discuss how I did.  I am thinking he will cut me down again since I have been able to go the last two days only taking 4 of them a day.  The taper is very hard and you do need to have a lot of self discipline.  You really need to want off them more than anything in your life because those first few days...they will keep tempting you and calling out to you....I found the first two days were the worst and I did have a little bit of the w/d symptoms...pain, the shakes and sweats...but that all went away.  When I cut myself down to 4 the other day, I had some poops but that was it.
If you have someone who can stay with you and help you, that will be awesome!  Of course we are also all here for you....I feel as if the Lord was watching over me the day I found this site and all the people here...I don't think I would be where I am now if it wasn't for that....I would have given in on those first days.....The great thing is that now that I feel like I have it under control, I also feel loads better.  I don't feel like I am in a fog all day and actually feel like doing more.  The more I do during the day, the less I think about it also.  I do tend to watch the clock when I have nothing to do...so I look for things to keep myself busy.
I did try the cold turkey method and discovered that was not for me...I am too much of a wuss..lol!  I only made it a day and went running to my doctor crying.  I have a lot of respect for those that were strong enough to do it this way.
Just remember, we are all here for you if you need us!  Good luck and God Bless!

First of all, I think by admitting and knowing you have a problem is fantastic considering most people I see with serious addictions can't even do that much. Now I think you just have to sit down, take a good hard look at where you are in life. Get a journal, write out what you know you need to change to put your life right back on track. That way it's visual and you can see it. I believe that there are people (strangers to you and me) that genuinely care about a persons well-being, and someone such as a doctor, one you trust. would be willing (hopefully) to help you recover from this addiction. I think you can do it, you have it in you especially if you had been clean for 10 months before, you can surely do it again. But you have to do it for yourself or else it wont work out as well. God Bless you and I wish you the best of luck in recovering.

HI Rita welcome to the forum....well it sounds like you have been threw the grinder trying to get off narcotics ...First off take a deep breath ...I can sense the panic in your post ...
try not to   let fear into the equation it only makes it worst...CUDOS for making it off methadone hands down thats one of the hardest ones to detox off of...as for what to do about your oxy problem it all depends on how much your taking...yes you can taper off it but that requires a lot of discipline and perseverance and you will still have to go threw withdrawals regardless...if your not taking obseen amounts of it it might just be ezer to jump off and get it done with ...the most important thing to brig to the table is your attitude about doing this...you got to want it bad...so bad your willing to do any thing to get off it...your ether all in or this wont work also we find aftercare a critical part of staying clean once your detoxed will get into that a bit later right now let us know how much your currently taking and for how many yrs it will make a difference in the advise we give you I will look for your post in the morning it is late and im off to bed good luck and God bless.....Gnarly
