detoxing from methadone

well my story starts as many do, i have degenerative disks with herniation on L4/L5....L5/S1....was put on pain
meds aprox 15 yr ago. darvoset N100 was prescribed 1 to 2 every 4 to 6 hr for pain,after a few yrs i became
addicted and my daily dose went up to 6 to8 often at one time to kill the pain.the doc said the Tylenol in the pills
would cause liver damage in high daily doses.so off to pain management i went...,now they continued to keep
me on the pills as well as aim/point shots directly into my spine. nothing was working and i continued to abuse
the pain pills for a little relieve at the end of the day popping 6 or 8 at a time....the doc at pain managment
suggested methadone to manage the pain ,that was in 2003 have been on it ever since 150mg a day.
as with all things it has stopped working so i have been weening myself off for aprox 8 mo,to say the least
it has been difficult i have hit menny road blocks that have stop me in my tracks 60mg then 30 then 20,
20 was the worst had major withdrawals for 6 weeks but after it has been E/Zer going ,I am now down to 7 mg now the withdrawals have been tuff since hitting 10mg,I fell like i got the flu for 3 days every time I go down been
going down 2 mg at a time this is the smallest I can mesure so it 2mg at a time every 5 days but just want
this thing over ..........annyone got anny helpful suggestions it would be appreciated thanks Gnarly_1

hey whitie thanks for the info on your profile, ive kinda been reading alot ,
I googled methadone detoxing and it brought me to this forum about a week ago
today was the first time I posted I still rember the darvon withdrawals for a wile
i was eating them like candy when i ran out i realized that i needed them
the methadone has been both a lifesaver for both the withdrawals as well
as the pain but its time has come and its time to get strait just hope i
can manage my back pain so far 800 ibuprofin has been taking the edge off
right now i feeldrained of all energy and my legs feel like lead,tomorow is
day 4 on my taper so i should feel a bit better but only to taper and feel
like #### again when i taper again annyway my kid wants the puter
so il say buy for now BTW THANKS FOR RESPONDING IT HUGE FOR ME

yeah, I ve seen those numbers before and figured it had to be liquid, cause if was pills I dont think you would be here typing. I would say the nurse is right. a taper is a must on 'done. I ran out this last time and could not taper, first two weeks were not pretty.  check out my profile, when you get a moment, some journals I have that should help with wd's, a little.

keep your thread updated daily, and I will scope you out.  'done is known to be one of the toughest to shake, just takes more time. best you get off it now, because the longer your on it the harder it is........

have been on the liquid ive been takiing myself down using a 10cc syringe to
measure it out  it only goes in graduations of 2ml so i cant go slower then that
im hoping to go to 5mg in a day or 2 and will stay on that at least 72 hr
i was told by a nurse that you can go 10% every 72 hr but my body dosent
always adjust that quickly. alot of times its more like a week or more
i just want this to be over as soon and as painless as possible also
how long did it take before you dident feel sick from it after stoping
and kudos on 3 mo clean   ....cant wait till i can say that thanks again Gnarly

what kind of methadone pills were you taking?

I know its like with major back injury L2-L3 fused,  10" steel rods, which I broke out, and had to go back under the knife many years ago...........now bone spurs and other issues


whole reason I got gassed up on the pills, then methadone, which I have been three months clean of.......

ya been kinda pushing it im out of money for more but ive got probly got like
790 mg saved so im thinking it should be more then enough to finish this off
I guess im just looking for support ,and im sick of being sick all the time
also energy is gone so the sooner it done the better, thanks for the advise though

Hi, you may want to slow the taper down. Give your body a chance to catch up to the lower amount before you taper again. Methadone is rough no matter how you do it but its safer to detox from a lower dose.
