ex heroin addict-no motivation

I had tried recovery programs and kept using, then I just quit. I moved to another country and saw life very differently. I have no desire to used and drugs are just not a part of my life. It has been 8 years.
Here is the problem. I have no motivation, I want to get back to being the person that I was before the heroin but some days I can't move. I feel I am still living like a junkie. I just don't do drugs. HElp!!!!!!

Congratulations in my name on 8 years.
I have been hooked up on heroin since my 14th year...That how was the environment arround me in 90's here in Serbia. But ,hey, I have learned actually lots of stuff during my addiction period to be honest.
So if geographical model of curing helped you i think you are fine, just contact doctor, and tell him how you feel and what have you been trough.
I think you need some counseling ( but it can show reversible effect,so think twice before you go. ) <-Because it all can remind him on days that he was trying to get off...
But seek doctor, maybe he can tell you do you need counseling. If i were on doctors place,i would prescribe you some anti-depressants,to use for at least 6 months.Because anti-depressants,and their effect is showing after 3-4weeks minimum.Best result is shown after 1-2 months of using. And some week bezo for you but in same time it should be like emotional stabilizer like "Lorazepam" . So anti-dep. like "Effectin EP" (if you have them there) + 2x1 Lorazepam (2,5mg) DAILY. And therapy should last for 6 moths. But after 3rd month start taking off by 1/6 of your benzo every second day...then 1/4 then you will get to half of tablet then again 1/6 then 1/4 then  1/6 again and then 0 . that is that. that is what i would prescibe by what is he complaining ...and everyting...

As everyone else has recommended...checking with your doctor sounds like the best idea.  In the meantime, perhaps vitamins, minerals and herbs could help you also.
Yoga is a great tool as well...I usually do not address this in posts but since you are into yoga perhaps you are familiar with the energy centers in your body, your chakras.  Chakra clearing can be extremely therapeudic and I would definately encourage you to check it out.
Best of luck to you -
Peace

Thanks
I guess I need to see a doctor, I know i don't have hep C. I had Hep A a few years ago that i got from working on a farm in Nicaragua. I was thinking hepC at the time but i thank goodness it was not. I have been doing yoga and that helps but then I get a week that i can't leave  the house. I will take your collective good advice.

After 8 years clean, I really think you need a thorough medical exam to rule out a physical problem.  Assuming you were an IV user, something like Hep C (God forbid) may have bitten you no matter how careful you were.  If everything physical checks out OK, then you need to look at the mental angle.  Something is obviously very wrong, so once again it's up to you to take the necessary steps to sort it out.  You detoxed from heroin, so you have the strength to see a doctor.  Please don't put it off and continue to suffer.  :-)

Hi,

Glad the geographical cure worked for you. For most it does not. GETTING clean is often not enough. We need to get to the core of our issues that got us using drugs in the first place. "Normal" people do not get up in the morning and do heroin to get through the day. Only us addicts do that crap. Just a suggestion but I think you will find freedom if you do some counseling and face your demons. It was one of the things that really helped me. A weight was lifted and I was able to start to function. Recovery is an ongoing process and we peel away the layers much like an onion. Once you start I think you will see a difference. You deserve it!

Hi!  Have you talked with your doctor?  Maybe there is something underlying going on???  Exercise can be very helpful too!  Might get a check up and some blood work to check everything out.

Congrats on your 8 years!!!   : )
