Weaning off Oxycontin

I have previously been on here for coming off Percocet from a misdiagnosis of Crohns Disease. I was able to get off Percocet in 2009. Anyways, after being treated with Prednisone for 5 months my body was destroyed and my kidney ended up tearing through my periteneal cavity and into my abdomen. It took the doctors 2 years to figure out that it was my kidney that was causing all my pain, during these 2 years I was sent to a pain specialist that did multiple spinal nerve blocks and nerve burnings which none worked. I was put on Oxycontin 20mg 2 times daily. The pain was getting worse and worse because the kidney was free floating in the abdomen and the urinary lines were being pulled on I was moved up to 80mg of oxycontin 3 times daily. I had surgery June 2010 to have my kidney tacked back into place. Stayed in hospital for over a week, they couldnt control my pain because on my own I was on oxy's and they were trying to treat my post operative pain with 1mg of morphine. HA. Anyways, the surgery was successful and I started weaning off the oxy's to the point where I was down to 20mg twice a day and then I couldnt go further on my own so my doctor switched me to Percocet 10/325 where I would take 8 a day for a week and then 7 a day for a week so on and so forth. When I got to the week where I was taking 7 a day I got an incisional hernia because the British doctor who did my kidney surgery failed to suture any of his lapro incisions. The begining of Aug 2010 I was put back on oxy's 20 mg 3 times daily as the hernia was so large I could not walk or stand or move. I was bed ridden. On Sept 27 I had the hernia repaired, again they could not control my pain post surgery and a pain specialist was called in. He put me on 80 mg oxy's 3 times daily. Along with Ativan and cymbalta. Cocktail.

I only stayed on the ativan for 2 weeks. Coming off the cymbalta was horrible I did it cold turkey but the side effects from that drug were horrible. So now Im weaning off Oxycontin. My Pain specialist had me go from 80mg 3x daily to 40mg 3x daily which was way to big of a jump so we had to go to 60's then 40's, and then 30's 2x daily ( I cut out the afternoon dose)

Here is my problem, during that last surgery they found endometriosis and I was referred to a OBGYN who gave me Nycenta which I was told was a non narcotic pain reliever that was great for Endometriosis. When you are with a pain specialist you sign a contract that you wont get narcotics from anyone else. So when I went to fill my 30mg oxy's the CVS girl said this script is from a pain specialist and you filled a Nycenta here a week ago. SO she calls my Pain Doc and I talk to them and told them why i had the Nycenta and that I was told it was non narcotic and that it was the only reason I took it. His job was to wean me from Oxy's. His nurse understood but the Pain specialist said that it would be the last script he would fill for me. So here I am with 30 mg Oxy's with no way to get a lower dose to continue my weaning. What do I do? The last time I tried to come off of the 20mg oxy's I felt like I was dying and ended up in the ER. I dont crush or split the pills or snort or anything like that but I have been on oxy's for at least 18 months. And I know the WD's from 30's are going to be horrible. We just moved to Alabama in August and I have only met with my pain specialist there once and I have an appt with him on the 27th of Jan but he wont see me sooner. and I only have 15 oxy's left. Before the hernia surgery and I was trying to get off Oxy's no one in Montgomery would help me. They all said go to the ER or check yourself into rehab like I was this drug addict. They are very conservative down there and Im having trouble getting someone to help me. The first ER I went to who helped me get off oxy the first time back in  August and switched me to Percocets said he would keep an eye on my scripts I was getting so I doubt he will help me. How do I wean off of these things if my own Pain specialist wont help me?

id recommend trying the all natural pills called withdrawal-ease...it helps with ALL the side effects and its all natural, which is great! I was addicted for 4 years and the side effects coming off of them were TERRIBLE..but my husband bought me some of these and they work a miracle...but after you go through the withdrawals its all psychological...

I didnt know anything about Nycenta, My OBGYN said it was a new pain reliever on the market that doesnt have the europhia associated with it and its like a really strong Advil/tylenol. I believed her. Ive been trying to wean off the oxys for a couple months now because I hate them. Hate them. But Im having that hardest time getting off them.

Hey Frankie~Why should she be taking TWO narcotics?  Why should she take an oxy everyday for 2 weeks? That's torture!

Just curious as to your rationale...

i feel for you. it is doable. it *****.. if you want to stop, then the sucky part is worth it..

I would not say it if I have not personally been thru this. I  was prescribed higher doses than you and jumped..

Like i said, it was hard but with the right support you can do this..

Aminos, vitamins, protien, and excercise..
I am sorry for your pain

Okay... Do you know anything about Nycenta?  It's an opiate with a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor.  Very similar to Tramadol. That's why the pain doctor wouldn't fill the oxy. You violated the contract.

My advice: Stop the oxy. Take the Nycenta and call the OBGYN and explain all of this.
Do you think you need two types of pain meds? I think one ( the Nycenta ) should do the trick.  Also, have the OBGYN call the pain doc and explain just to clear you...

Good luck!
