HI and welcome to the forum......methadone is used for heroin addiction and is effective to curb the desire as well as keep the withdrawals at bay...typically it is usually cheeper then sub....but it is a monster to kick....I was on it for 6 1/2yrs for pain management got up to 150ml of the stuff and it took 8 1/2mo to taper off of it was difficult to say the least both sub and methadone are ment to be used in cunjuction with aftercare like N/A or A/A or a substance abuse conslor to help build up a foundation and to tech you the skills and give you the tools to lead a clean and sober lifestyle once weened off...many people just take the drug and fail to get the cproper help to make ether program effective ...if I where you I would have a talk with your sub doctor and tell him your having trouble they may be able to adjust you dose to help a bit...if your not into aftercare yet  get involved it will help with things like cravings and such..it works if you work it...keep posting for support you may want to start at the top of the page with the green box marked post a question it will start your own thread and you will get more responses good luck and God bless...Gnarly

It's used for pain control, detox (to an extent), and for the most part as an opiod replacement drug for maintenance.
