Today was day 14 going cold turkey from 1mg daily of Xanax XR and I just could not stand the wd's.  Everything I've read said I should have done a slow taper so I took .0125 mgs in an effort to take the edge off...I think it did.  These wd's were knocking my richard in the dirt.  Along with my lortab taper I could not go any longer.  DAMM...I'm so disappointed with myself...thought I was stong enough to tackle this but these white pills are stronger than I am right now.  So far I've been able to maintain my goal of three 10/500 lortabs today and so far so good...so it appears I've won that battle today but the war is far from over.

stopping xanax or other benzo's abruptly can cause some nasty side effects. It's always advised that you taper gradually off of  benzo's.
As Gnarly said, taking xanax over a long period causes adaptive changes in the benzodiazepine/GABA receptors. It takes time for them to heal/ repopulate and function normally again.

your probablly going to feel a bit weird from taking that benzos are not like narcotics taking some dosent always get rid of the damaged gaba transmitters .....I hope this works out for you but your best bet is to see a doctor and get tapered off properly we cannot give them out in the open forum its ageist guidelines keep posting for support.......Gnarly
