valium withdrawal

The doctor put me on Xanax 3 weeks ago for 5 days at 2mg per day then tried to wean me off after 4 days. I suffered horrific withdrawal even after such a short time.  I saw a psychiatrist who immediately took me off Xanax and put me on Valium starting dose 22mg reducing by 2mg a day on a 12 day wean. I am now on 6mg a day and starting to feel some unpleasant withdrawals such as anxiety and nausea.  But I am determined to get off these nasty tablets in the time frame as I don't feel good on them and I do not want to taper more slowly. The antidepressants have kicked in and are already helping with the panic attacks. I really don't feel good but will I continue to suffer nasty side effects from Valium withdrawal when I finish the course and for how long as I feel bad on them anyway and can't imagine tapering for a few days each tablet will make much of a difference. Am I going to be okay??

Have just taken my morning 1mg Valium and due to take my 2nd 1mg tonite. Hoping it's my last on this quick taper Had a sleepless night and panic this morning. It's midday and trying to drag myself out of bed. I know people on this site having really difficult times compared to my stupid 4 week ordeal What I am going through is hard enough. I am praying I will feel 'normal' in a few days

Good luck to everyone on this site too - I probably feel some of the terrors of your withdrawal and this has been the blackest period of my life

hi and welcome, the psychiatrist did the right thing in putting you on valium, most drs. use valium as a way of getting of benzos, it has the right half life for it.you do need to taper slowly, or you can be at risk from seizures, it is normal to feel the withdrawal symptoms. its good you are also on antidepressants, so your doing everything right. when your body gets used to 2mgs that is when you usually stop altogether,  i was on benzodiapines for many years but not now, it does take some time though. its god to drink plenty of fluids, and avoid spicy foods, get some fresh air and gentle exercise, the key word is distraction, watch tv, films, read anything to keep your mind off your symptoms. take care and god bless.

you will be fine, it is a fast taper, but I have been taking for 8 months or so, highest dose was at 400MG and I quit 2 days ago on a dose of 240MG. I have sertaline which helps with the withdraws, maybe slow down on your taper and speak to your doc... but you will be ok, you have been taking these pills for a short time. all the best
