Tramadol/ultracet

I am concerned someone I am very close with may be addicted to this drug.  I have never been around drug use and am unsure if I am having reasons to be this concerned.

Yes he does and might eventually need to have surgery.  I still think that there are other options instead of just popping a pill.  He has never tried physical therapy /working out.  I am very into health and fitness and I just feel like he is letting himself waste away.  It is killing me to watch!
He is never constipated it is usually the opposite and he has diarrhea.  He has always been on the smaller side- but yes he is underweight.  *He is not my son by the way* but he has lost complete desire for regular sex.  Just very concerned these pills are effecting him in tons of negative ways.  I recently found out he has been ordering them online as well.  :(  Thank you for all of you input- It means a lot hearing from someone who knows.

does he have a chronic illness that causes him moderate to severe pain?
if he doesn't then it's fair to say he may well have an addiction.
perhaps his stomach issues are related to constipation which can be a side effect of taking narcotics and similar drugs. tramadol isn't classed in the same category as the most powerful opiates but it relies on the same receptors in the brain which i think is what makes it addictive.
Is he underweight? Are his medications prescribed to him by a dr?
any further info may help me understand his situation better.
have you been able to talk to him about your concerns?
I think it is reasonable for you to know why he is taking those pills.
they do have serious side effects for some people.
I had seizures while taking tramadol. they can also cause seizures if they are stopped being taken abruptly.
I'm not trying to worry you, just let you know that tramadol needs to be used responsibly. best of luck to you and your son, please ask more questions if you need to.

I am not the person I am concerned with.  It is a family member.  He takes the meds every day several times a day.  He is constantly having stomach issues as well.  Loss in certain activities.  I have asked him if he is addicted to them and he just says no.  I am just concerned he has become addicted he has been taking these meds over a year now.  I myself have never had addiction problems so I was hoping that someone on here could give me some help with warning signs etc.  :( I am very concerned for his over all health.  He barely eats some days!
