kendraerika back on pills?

So yesterday while getting stuff ready for Christmas,  my daughter got into some shampoo. I missed some while cleaning, and took a hard fall on my butt. This either popped my hip out, or at least irritated the SI joint, which I have been dealing with for 2 years.  I called the clinic time see if there was an anti inflamitory that I could safely take in the second trimester. They made me come in to check on baby, and my hip. First thing after hearing baby's heart was mention tylenol 3, and lortab.  I explained that I didn't want to go that route, and that I have been off of them for almost 2 months.  I was given an ibuprophen and told to wait to make sure it helped along with ice. This did not help, it continuously got more inflamed.  Again, they brought up pain meds. I asked for physical therapy instead. They said that the pain put stress on baby, and that today I would hurt worse, I feel like my right side was hit by a truck. They said I needed to keep the pain down for physical therapy.

I ended up leaving with a script for 10 tylenol 3, which makes me puke 1.5 hours after I take it and I'm miserable. I have physical therapy in 2 hours, and am due to take another dose,  but don't want to take it. I like being sober. I hate the feeling of not being right in my head. I have anti nausea meds, but I still don't want to go this route. I will be talking to my therapist about other options, as well as my own doc. I'm at a loss of what to do, and do not want to go down this path again, with the meds or the pain.

hey sweetie they give me norco for when the pain gets bad enough, and for when I need to do the exercises. For me nothing really seems to prevent the pain....no position or exercise keeps the pain from starting and once it starts I just have to lie down and wait it out :-(.

If you can have someone hold the pills and give them to you only if the pain is unbearable, or only before and immediately after a PT session, you shouldn't build up a dependence again (unless the pain is unbearable a LOT) just using a few a week....so withdrawals shouldn't be a huge issue.

I totally understand your fear and it's definitely something to discuss with your OB/PT. Hopefully they'll be able to help you come up with a treatment plan that you are comfortable with, and maybe they'll be able to come up with a solution that doesn't involve narcotics!

so so sorry you're going through this :-( it's awful to deal with while pregnant..and I hope that you find something that gives you relief!

Ashelen you are an angel.  You are so much help, and having someone that knows about the si joint stuff makes me feel not so alone. I didn't take a t3 before my appt, bit now regret it. The poking and stretching to cause pain so therapist could see what's going on was torture, and after, it bad. I couldn't get anything else over the phone, and can't be seen until morning, so I'm icing it, but hurting. I broke down and took one. I'm super nauseous, but keeping it down with the compozine and food in my stomach.

Therapist said, yes it's out, but gave me stretches to get it in, but as you said, he told me to expect it to get worse as the pregnancy progresses.  Long term use of narcotics scare the ever livin poo out of me, I do not want to go through w/d again. What do you take, or do besides heat, ice, massage? Chiropractic didn't work, it actually crippled me for 24 hours after.I'm scared.

If your husband and doctor are keeping you accountable and you feel like you need it and can handle it, do what you have to do...only you will be able to determine what you can and cannot handle here....just work closely with your doctor, be honest with your husband, and speak with your physical therapist about all the options available and see where this goes.

I'm hoping you heal quickly...I cringe just knowing how bad you probably hurt right now...I hope they can help you find a solution <3.

Thank you ashelen.  That helps slot. I already called and my Dr isn't there but I have a nurse calling me. I'm wondering if I can take ibuprophen maybe I can take torodal?  That seemed to help when nothing else would. My husband is very supportive and my Dr will hold me accountable by making me bring my bottle in time prove I am not taking more then I should if I ask her to. She has b4 for me. I'm still scared and looking at lortab as option z. I will wait for the nurse to call,y luck it will be during my appt.  If she doesn't call soon, I will take a compozine and t3,  bc you are right, the si is incredibly painful, and the session aggravate it.

Well do what you feel is best Kendra. It is true, stress releases cortisol which the baby absorbs BUT if you are stressing yourself more out about being back on the pills...it's a tough call.

You will hurt in physical therapy. Unfortunately, I've been there. I have a damaged SI joint and both of my hips pop in and out when I'm pregnant because I also get SPD when I'm pregnant...and I am now seeing a chiropracter and working with a physical therapist, and if I didn't have pain medicine to take at least to get me through the sessions, I would be screaming in pain about 5 minutes in. It literally feels like someone is jamming an icepick into my joints and twisting...horrible, horrible feeling.

So you could always keep the medicine JUST to take when you're in physical therapy...but I also can't take codeine while pregnant (makes me throw up like crazy), so perhaps the lortab would be a better option. And you could take the remaining T3's back to the pharmacy to turn in when you pick up the new script.

With that being said....only you know what you can handle. If you feel like being back on the meds will be too much and you will use again, stay away and tough it out, because to me that would be worse stress on you mentally than a few weeks of pain.

BUT...do not underestimate the pain. pain pills are there to take in situations just like this, and if you can have someone hold the pills for you and take them responsibly, they can be a very useful tool that will help make the physical therapy more effective and hopefully help you heal more quickly.

it's a really tough call. If it were me, and I were in your shoes, I would ask for a new script for lortab, turn in the T3's so they're not lying around calling your name if you become weak, and hand the lortabs over to someone to give to you before your PT sessions, and maybe one dose for after because you will be in a LOT of pain. And just don't take them the rest of the time (ask about epsom salts, heating pads, gentle stretches, etc). That's what I would recommend. I think you can do this...I think you're determined, and aware of the dangers, and if someone is helping you oversee this I do believe you can take them responsibly for now....but if you don't feel you're ready for that, then that is your answer!

best luck to you Kendra I"m so proud of how far you've come and I know you'll make the best decision..hopefully someone else will come along with better advice than I've got, but no matter what you can always talk to me if you need to <3.

Hey!  I'm sorry this happened to you!  Can you take the Motrin around the clock? Does it upset your stomach? It's such a good anti inflammatory and it sounds like they ok'd it.  From there, ice ice ice and talk to the PT. Those therapists know their stuff and will advise you well.

I think T3's are rough on everyone's stomach! Have you tried it with food? I'm sure they don't want you in pain when you have therapy...but you know what you can do!
