Hi! I don't want to appear secretive or anything. LOL! Yes, I am a medical professional - and I am a recovering person as well. I don't focus on my own history much because in my role, caring for others - well, that isn't generally how we are oriented. If a patient asks if I am recovering, I say yes. But I don't disclose unless I am asked. And I do not give specifics because I find it does not necessarily help the person - it also may work against them - "well, you've never been addicted to fill-in-the-substance so you can't understand" - addicts are always looking for the loophole! haha  Or they want to talk about "me" - and they are there to work on "them"!

Caring for people with the disease of addiction is my area of focus, although I also have many years of caring for people with "medical" problems as well. I am 12 step oriented because of the hundreds, maybe thousands , of addicts/alcoholics/whatevers I have interacted with over the years, I have found that if the person really "does the whole deal", along with the rest of their comprehensive treatment plan, they do great in all areas of their life. Being in "recovery" is so much more than just getting off of the substance. For example, some get off the substance, only to find that their lives are still out of control and they feel misearable. Hey, they started getting loaded for a reason!  I look at what works to achieve the best possible outcome.

So, there ya have it. It's terrific to know there is a forum like this - any time I see people reaching out for help, it makes me so darn happy!

I really enjoyed the post also. I kinda wonder if "ready2help" was/is a recovering addict, based of the words she used.Such as "you" addicts, instead of "we/us' addicts. Not sure though, that was just my impression of the post. Then again I could be wrong.

R2H- Either way we would really enjoy more of  your words of wisdom.
