Your scenario sounds almost identical to mine. I was on 15mg oxycodones and I was taking 6-8 /day (of course I was only perscribed 3-4) but I was taking them for about 7 months and I decided to quit. I quit cold turkey at first and the days went like this: Day1: All I wanted to do was sleep, I got out of bed only to feed and check on my kids, but I slept all day long. Day 2: I had a little more energy but Im started to feel the pain that I was originally perscribed the oxys for. Day3: The diahrea started but I had already bought immodium for that so it was not really a problem. NOW THE FUN STARTS!! After 3 full days of no oxy is when the insomnia started( becasue that is approximately when the drug is completely out of your system). I could'nt fall asleep until around 3 in the morning and had to be up at 5. I only struggled through that for about 5 days and then I relapsed. 2 months later I decided to do the Suboxone thing (by myself and not with a doctor) and I have been doing it for 9 days now. Going by all of the websites that I have read and by talking to a friend of mine who did go through a doctor a couple of years ago, I feel that a 10 -15 day taper system is the extreme best because if you aren't on the subs more than 15 days than you won't be addicted to them as much as 3 months of use. Of course talk to your doctor about it but here is what I am doing:First 2 days of suboxone use : 2 mgs (1/4 of the 8mg orange pill). Next 3 days: 2 mg s in the morning and 2 mgs in the afternoon. Next 3 days: back down to 2 mgs per day. The next 3 to 4 days: 1 mg per day (break or cut the 2mgs in half).
You won't be able to tell any difference in how you feel when you go down to 2 mgs per day but you might feel a little discomfort going down to 1mg but it will be mostly at night when you feel it. Some people try to go down even more before jumping off but others jump off at 1mg, it is completely up to you. I am on my 3rd day of 1 mg and I am feeling ok (day 1 of 1mg was a little rough but day 2 was better). My friend that I mentioned earlier did a 3 wk taper program with his doctor and he said that he jumped off at 2 mgs and only had a little discomfort for a couple of days and of course had the restless legs which causes the insomnia. There are a couple of things that you can take for that, Highlands Restless Legs from Walgreens and Melatonin (which is a natural vitamin that you can buy at walmart) are 2 highly recommended things from this forum.
But to answer your original question, YES it is good to use the Suboxone if you use it only to get through the oxy withdrawal time and then get off of it. Way too many people get on it and stay on it and then they become addicted to it and have serious w/ds when they decide to quit. But if used properly and tapered off of ASAP then there will be minimum w/ds from it.
I am sorry about the long post but I finally found someone who has been takings oxy about the same amount of time as me so I wanted to pass along a little info that you may find helpful. Good luck to you and keep me posted about your progress. Also talk to your doctor about posiible setting up a week to 2 week taper program instead of 3 months because you weren't on the oxys very long and the longer that you stay on the subs the more w/ds you will have when you get off. - Joe
the doctor said 2 motns, im just totally confused and feel i dont need any of this ****. if i stop sub tomorrow will i go thru withdrawl from what your saying the answer to that is yes. thanks for keepin in touch u have provided me alot of insight i know the withdrawls are bad but i think im making it too much in my head or maybe mentally i just aint ready to have no opitate at all. i dont kno i do know i am done being a victim to pk's and i refuse to be planning my day around pills
Of course you feel like a million bucks which is great! And you feel like you are still on something because you are. Some people report getting a high off of sub. When you take sub it keeps you from withdrawing because your mu receptor is still getting an opiate. You brain knows no difference between the roxy you were taking or the sub you are taking now. Your brain doesn't care what it is getting, as long as it's getting what it wants. Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing sub at all. It can be a great resource.
Being on the roxy's for 6 to 8 months is not all that long of a time. Your dose was somewhat high but not too high. In my opinion I think you ought to try and tackle it head on since that is what you like to do. If all else fails, you still have the sub program to fall back on. I know that's what I would try. Lets say you stay on the sub for a bit longer, taper off and have no withdrawals. I know if I was taking my pain meds and didn't have any withdrawals, I would more than likely relapse as I would think I could get through the withdrawals anytime I wanted. And then it would be too easy to stay on the pills for who knows how long just because I would think that I didn't have to worry about withdrawals. It seems most people have to go through the withdrawals as a reminder of how hard it is to get through them and stay off the pills. Know what I mean?
So I say if you don't know what to do, just try going cold turkey. The sub will be waiting.
How long do you plan to stay on the sub?
no i have not tried any of that, the day i went into withdrawl i immeditely went on the sub i am on it for 48 hrs now and i must say i feel like a million bucks , i even went out today for a few. i dont know wat to do man, i feel like im still on something and just dont want to be depending on a pill to get me thru the day no more. i have always been the type of person who likes to take things head on and have great motivation to stop. i am 25 and have lost so much these past 8 motns ,
If you are taking suboxone you are not withdrawing. Suboxone is used to prevent withdrawals as it is an opiate itself. It's chemical makeup is just different. It can be very helpful for some though. Most say it should only be used as a last resort after someone has tried to get clean quite a few times and has failed on every attempt. You have to realize that when you do stop taking the sub that you will have withdrawals from it also. Some say it's worse than other opiates same say it's not. You also have to realize that suboxone is more of a program that just a pill. You need to get as much aftercare while in the program as you can.
If you are wondering if you did the right thing and if you should have tried some otc stuff have you considered to still try that route if you haven't tried it before? You would still have the option of giving the sub a try if going cold turkey didn't work. Have you ever tried tapering off of your original doc?
Keep us updated on how you are doing.

hey I started the suboxone 6 days ago and I feel like a million bucks right now. I was so totally tired I would have tried anything. I was staying up all mosf everynight using. I was eating 25 vics a day along with 25 soma's. On top of that I was taking 300 mg Elavil, 200 mg trazadone, Halcion, ativan.I was drugged all the time. I feel of my self and yes I am alive. Suboxone save my life.
Everyone has to do what's right for themselves and not worry..you are headed toward recovery and that's what matters.I did the suboxone, also but I wouldn't advocate for or against it.I also was concerned when I read all the posts on here.I had to do what was right for me.I have a weak mind, too.
Anyway,I got off the sub.after 5 weeks, been clean since june 12th.Feel free to message me if you want to.Congratulations, you're going love living sober!!
