what to tell family & friends

Im going to be induced Tuesday morning at 39.5 weeks. Currently taking 24mgs of subutex a day. From the time my babygirl comes into this world she will be in the NICU to be monitered for w/d. I pray to God its not that severe and her stay isnt more than a week. There are only a handfull of people that know my situation. Mom, dad, sister, grandma, and babys dad. My question is... what do I tell everyone else? Extended family and the younger ones like my 6yr old daughter, nieces and nephews defenantly dont need all the details. Im going to have to come up with some reason of why they will have to go see her in the NICU and why she cant come home with me. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with this? Thank U!

Trying is spot on, You could just say her vitals we a bit off and they need to monitor  for a bit. My son was in NICU for a month for aspirating my fluid. Believe it or not, none asked as they were to freak themselves. It was odd actually. Anyway, just say tough delivery, but reassure all will be ok. AND IT WILL! Just said a prayer for you. You'll do fine.

Excellent suggestion trying!  I would buy that and it ties into the baby having minor complications they are monitoring.  Then if they keep her longer, they are still treating her for it.

A common reason newborns are kept in the NICU is when drs suspect the baby may have aspirated some of the meconium (inhaled some of their poop) during the birthing process. That's believable enough. Just tell them that.
Good luck dear.

I always feel the less you tell people, the better in situations like these.  They don't understand.  Another thought is "the baby is fighting an infection"  which is kind of the truth.  She is fighting off something.  I hope your delivery goes well and best wishes for a speedy recovery for you both.

They are on a need to know basis.  I personally wouldn't say anything more than the baby has some minor complications that they are closely monitoring.  If they ask what they are, I would be generic about it.  Perhaps something like 'nothing serious, just taking precautions.  They are monitoring her until they feel comfortable.  Her apgar score was low".     If they ask more, just say that you don't know more than that and that you have faith in the dr.  You would rather be safe than sorry and don't anticipate any problems.   Then when you go home, ask the nurse for advise on what to tell people.

I would maybe ask one of the NICU nurses what to say.  I totally understand your concern as people of course will be asking.
quitinoxys is right, you shouldn't worry.
Wishing you all the best and please make sure to keep us updated.
