When does day one of being sober start?

Is it 24 hours after your last pill? the next day? Just curious. I tapered down from 7-8  to 3.5 and I took my last 1/2 tonight about 1. I'll be using gabapentin to help me get through the withdrawals. Has anyone else tried that before? I was prescribed them by my Dr but was never taking them so i have a lot. He was just putting me on so much at once and now won't listen when in want off. So I did the tapering as low as I can and tomorrow I will not take anymore for the rest of forever haha.

I took my last half at 1am and haven't taken, anything since! So it's been 10 hours, the gabapentin has been working for the most part. I took 2 100mgs, which is what my Dr had prescribed me to take if needed(hes one of those drs that will drug you so much rather than find the problem)  I was taking the tramadol and it wasn't working(before my surgeries) so they put me directly on norco 10/325. I still don't know what is causing the stomach pain, it wasn't my gallbladder but they took it out anyways. I just need to be done with these things. The last time in was only taking I think the 5/500. I was clean for 12 days and then I was in the er for my stomach pain(the one that's still a mystery) then they tried tramadol didnt work blah blah lol. I have enough gabapentin to taper down off off need be. But I only plan on being on them for about 5 days or so. Just see how I feel!! Thanks for the post and advice!

How are you doing today?  Is today Day 1?

The best way to track your clean days is to use the recovery tracker.  You are asked to put in the date of the last date of substance us...and it will do the rest.  I noticed you posted a journal back in March 2012 about not being able to post 1/2 a pill...and that's cause even if it's just 1/2 a pill....it's a day you still put a substance in your body.  So...why not try the tracker this time around......I really like those hands cheering for me...LOL

As far as the gabapentin...I was on it when I jumped off MANY hydros, somas and had been obsessively taking prozac too.  I wasn't aware at the time that it helped me...but in hindsight I can say it did.
It may make you tired....start slow and low.....and take it as prescribed.  It will help with sleep, too.  Someone else mentioned Lyrica as well as gabapentin....I would say they may be similar medications...but Lyrica has a set of its own problems and IF you are an addict.....it can be bad news.
Plus, there are a lot of threads on this forum about how difficult it is to w/draw from and get off the Lyrica.  I didn't find gabapentin hard to get off of at all.  I weaned down properly.....and had some minor discontinuation syndromes.
Now that your baby is older....and you have some surgeries behind you now....I hope you'll make it this time.  You're off the tramadol AND the hydros now, right?
Lastly, since this isn't your first rodeo...I'm sure you already know...but you telling your dr you are an addict is crucial...cutting off any and all other sources....sharing your addiction with someone for accountability and getting some support.
May this be the day you decide to change your life~

Ros, Welcome! I tried Lyrica and Gabapentin. one bottle each. They made me angry and depressed after the first bottle. I wouldn't get on it. They say IT'S REAL HARD to get off. Hang in there and keep posting. God Bless

Welcome to the forum Ros909!  You will find lots of support here!  It is kinda slow right now but keep watching your post and lots will help!  The angels on here saved my life!  I am 38 days clean from a 20 a day Norco addiction. I used gabapentin for my first 10 days and I do feel like it helped me. However, I do think it made me tired and have no energy. I think it just depends on the person on if it works. As long as it is prescribed to you then it is worth trying!  You will still have withdrawals as there is no way around that but tapering should make them manageable!  Post your symptoms as you have them and you will get lots of responses on ways to deal with them!  I wish you the best!  Hang in there!
