Withdrawal isn't the same as dependence. You can have withdrawal without being dependent. It's you body getting back to "normal" that causes withdrawal, it can happen to anyone and not happen to anyone. You have to deal with what's happening to you, not what happens to others. If you have to taper off more slowly, than that's what you have to do.
I have been off and on vicodine for 8 years taking 2-3 750 per day. It all started when I had breast cancer. Throughout the 8 years I tried to quit serveral times, but the anxiety and panic attacks were so severe. The only thing that relieve the anxiety and panic was xanax. So hear I am switching one drug to the other and eventually on both. I have been on xanax for one month taking .75mg per day just to take the edge off. Now it's been 8-days off the vicodine and 2-days off the xanax. The first 6-days was horrible, severe neck pain, headache and panic attacks off and on all day. The panic attacts would come every 3-5 minutes and try having this happen to you when your sitting at a desk for 7-hours a day. It wasn't until the 7th-day that I started to feel 50% better. Even though I didn't take massive amounts of these drugs I still had severe withdrawals. It all depends on the individual. Every person's chemistry in their body are different and the severity of withdrawal symptoms and duration will vary. Be patient and take one day at a time and note the percentage of improvement per day. It will get better!!!!!
