How long is too long?

Hi everyone, I am looking for opinions on Toilet training. My son is 4, he is toilet trained throughout the day and night except he will not use a potty or toilet to poop. Once he had done his poop he asks for the nappy to be removed. I have tried rewarding, coaxing, taking things away.. etc. Still nothing. He starts kindy this week and I refuse to place a nappy in his bag. He is smart enough not to poop while there and will wait until he gets home. I have told him there are no more nappies.. He gets VERY distressed...after 3 days I have purchased nappies as he bloated and in pain. I know I am to blame.. that is why I am seeking advice. Is it safe for me to let him go without a nappy for days?
Thanks heaps.

It seems to me that it is going to be the only way as the 'nappy' is enabling the behavior. , make sure he is eating plenty of fibre to help with any constipation he may have , sometimes backing off a bit and lessening the talk about it may help, too much can be over whelming.Good Luck
