How long does one have to endure hep c ?

My husband contracted hep c when he was 20 yrs old, I think it was from drug use. He's 60 yrs old now. He received treatment 11 yrs ago, an refused to do the last check to see if it was cleared up. He is obese 335 pounds, eats what he wants, he quit smoking hasn't drank in yrs. For the past 7 yrs he has had gastrointestinal bleeding, past yr diahrea, past 5 months shortness of breath even at rest, will only eat certain foods now an gets angry if I don't eat what he eats,  the past 3 yrs he has had chronic lower back pain , shoulder pain, gets nose bleeds all the time an bad headaches. He's on blood thinners, iron pills, an cholesterol meds , kidney meds cause he was just diagnosed with chronic kidney failure, he's on acid reflux meds, and he's also diabetic. He has vision problems mainly dry scratchy watery eyes. He's itchy and musty smell to his breath. He gets body sores. Recently he has had a bad body Odor like he's menstrating. He is constantly in the bathroom like 12 times or more a day an during the night. At night he sweats an his pillow turns an oily yellow from his head, he has lost all his body hair. He turns yellow then red then a greyish white. Recently he's been complaining he's cold when it's hot inside an outside. He gos in an out of confusion an lethargy it's hard to talk to him he gets angry when I do.  It's hard for him to walk with also haveing so much leg, feet swelling an pain, his arms an stomach swelled, his breasts enlarged. He had a biopsy done 11 yrs ago and they told him he had chirosis, they told me he had 6 yrs if he gos back to his bad habits . He has been very mean an agitated twords me an he's always has nasty things to say about people. He took himself off his anxiety meds. So now I take some to deal with him. He copies everything I do , he never did that before, an he's very unpredictable. He also has sleeping problems. His hygiene is terrible an all he does is sit most of the time. I cry myself to sleep most nights cause I'm in fear every minute of the day an night. While he's in denial of it all . The doctors told me 6 yrs ago to be prepared. Me an the doctors tried everything with him ,he does take his meds but his levels keep rising. The meds are not working. He was told he doesn't qualify for a liver transplant. I am exhausted Tired an lost....He watches my every move I can't go anywhere or do anything is this a normal thing with a person with hep c ? I don't know what to do anymore an I'm so stressed.

It appears that your husband has many help issues as well as cirrhosis of the liver. The only way I know of to get a plan for the future is to sit down with his doctor who knows the most about all of his health conditions and have a frank talk. If you need to know more about his liver disease and its prognosis you should talk at least to a gastroenterologist or better yet a hepatologist who specializes in liver disease.

As far as his hepatitis C is concerned that is a minor issues at this point. Hepatitis has been a curable virus for many years now. The problem may be he may not be healthy enough to do treatment at this point. Only his doctor who has all the facts about his liver function will know whether he is a candidate for treatment at this time or not. Maybe with treatment his symptoms would lessen and he could live with a better quality of life?

Again talk to his doctors and find out what is really going on and what his prognosis his.

Good luck to you.
