Sunday Weigh In June 14, 2020

Good afternoon...I'm sorry I'm so late posting today.  We've been working on a construction project in our house and when I got up at 5:00 this morning, husband was in a dither about something that he thought wasn't going to work the way we had planned - he'd been worrying about it since 3:00 am.  I didn't have much time to get woke, get my coffee or anything else before we were knee deep into the project...

We ended up getting a lot further along with it today than we planned, but are we ever tired.  :-)

Anyway, my week has been pretty unexciting, other than working on this construction project, which we really only started on Friday, although I've been planning it for a while now.

It's been hot, so not much to do outside, though we did have to mow the yard on Monday - that was a couple hours of good exercise since I do a good share of my portion with a push mower... That showed me that I really do need to start exercising, though as I'm afraid I'm going to end up being one of those "weekend warrior" type people who push themselves so hard all at once they have a heart attack.

I did have blood work done on Friday and got the results already... It's no wonder I'm feeling extra tired and am gaining weight like there's no tomorrow because my thyroid hormone (Free T4 and Free T3) levels are actually below the reference ranges.  I'm hoping my new endo will give me an increase in dosage, but it's not real likely since my TSH is so-called "perfect" and he told me that he only goes by TSH.  grrrr

Anyway, if he won't give me an increase, I'll have to try to figure out something on my own, because I certainly can't continue the way I am.

I'm still seeing the chiropractor for my neck - sometimes I feel like it's helping and other times, not.  I'm not sure how many more sessions we'll do before the chiropractor decides the treatments are beneficial.  At that point, I'll h ave to talk to my neuro about getting the trigger point injections since I do need some relief from the pain.

Anyway, I haven't really weighed in a couple of days, but I know I'm up by several pounds over last week, because I've been gaining at the rate of nearly a pound/day... yeah, that's a lot and I'm not sure how to stop it without an increase in my thyroid med to increase metabolism or just stop eating, which isn't good either!!  I guess I'll just wait to hear from the endo.

So how about your week?  I hope it went well and that you reached whatever goal(s) you might have set...

~~Wishing you a wonderful, successful week~~

*Stay safe and wash your hands~~

Sounds like you got a lot of work done and also some exercise along with it, Barb. I hope you can get through to your doctor about what those thyroid values mean. You would think he would believe you if you told him how your weight has been behaving.

Our new digital scale arrived yesterday, and it doesn't work. So we're going to mask up and go in person to try to get a decent scale that looks like it would weigh accurately. That said, the guest-room scale hints that I might be up a pound. (Time to throw away that lying scale! lol)

Since our state seems to be heading back into a more locked-down time again, it's really incumbent on me to take a firmer hand with food for me and my family. My old friend Dr. Pepper is back in my life. I don't drink the big amounts I used to, but it's crept up to about twice as much as I had gotten it down to most recently.

I think everyone in my family has been compensating for the quarantine with food and snacks to some extent. My husband does the best because he runs and walks a lot, but even he has found occasionally that his weight is creeping up. My son and I were walking every day after school, but then the schools went online and we stayed separately for a couple of weeks and when we got back together we were out of the habit, and honestly some days all I would really like to do is take a nap. To cheer everyone up, I make our favorites for dinner, and get treats in the grocery order. Even though so far I've squeaked through with little weight gain over my first weigh-in here last year, the idea is to be losing, not staying even and certainly not gaining. I'd say I'm falling down on that one.

Off to the store to look for a scale. :P

My son and I did get a walk in tonight, right at dusk. He needed it to finish a P.E. credit and I just needed it. Maybe we can get back into the habit of walking each night.
I got my share of exercise yesterday, with all the construction work we did - plenty of climbing up/down the ladder, on/off the stool, pushing, pulling, lifting and lots of steps with trips made back and forth to mine and husband's work shops.

I haven't heard from my doctor... one problem I (and many others) have is that doctors often fail to acknowledge that the thyroid can have as great an effect on our body as it does.  I've heard, many times:  "That's not thyroid related" in spite of the 300+ possible symptoms that show on many lists of thyroid symptoms.  Or, as this particular doctor said to me:  "You can't prove those symptoms are caused by your thyroid..."   No, I can't, but 1) you can't prove they aren't   and 2) it seems a little more than coincidental that the symptoms go away when thyroid levels are higher and come back when they're too low...   Unless one has the right doctor, having a thyroid condition can be a never ending issue.

I'm sorry to hear your new scale didn't work.  I hope you were able to find another.

I'm also sorry to hear that your old affair with the good doctor (Dr Pepper) has resumed again.  You've kicked it before, I'm sure you can do it again.

I think a lot of people have used food, in one way or another to help compensate for being shut in and not having as many options for seeing friends or getting out do things.   I don't think I've really increased my intake all that much - it's just that I'm eating the wrong things again.

It's too bad your state is headed back into lockdown again.  I kind of wish ours would...
