Hello and hope you are doing well.
The tympanic cavity you are referring to is the middle ear cavity. There are tubes called 'Eustachian tubes' which connect the middle ear to the throat, this balances the air pressure in the ears. This tube can get blocked due to infections of the throat, which can give lead to a feeling of fullness in the ears. This can also result in infection of the ears. That was the reason the grommet was inserted, to drain if any fluid is present in the middle ear.
If there is any fluid build up in this cavity, it will be visible on examination. And if the grommet tube is not blocked, its unlikely that there is any persisting congestion in the ear. Sometimes if there is nerve damage, you can perceive sounds which are not there. And This abnormal perception of sounds is referred to as tinnitus.
Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Hello and thanks for your reply,
The consultant says that he thinks I have nerve damage
but I disagree beacuse of the congestion and the gluey feel that i have constantly these days , do you know of any decongsetants that may help also is there any part of my ear that can hold the congestion , I read about the Typanic cavity? .
Thanks Jeff
Hello and hope you are doing well.
What was the diagnosis made? Is it Eustachian tube dysfunction? Then the Grommet insertion should help relieve the pressure. But check with your doctor to see if it is blocked. This can cause accumulation of fluid and infection.
