The pain does come and go, but when it comes, it's a really sharp kind of pain, it's not particualy caused by anything, it just happens every so often.
I haven't had any problems with my teeth recently, or in general at all, i'm going to make a Doc's appointment tommorow to see what's going on in there.
Does the pain come and go? Does it seem to relate to any particular thing (ie: weather, sleeping position, colds, etc)?
Usually with an ear infection...you would definitely notice this pain. It's more than mild. There's generally discharge and warmth involved as well. Personally, it doesn't sound like an infection.
Do you have any problems with your teeth/molars? Have your wisdom teeth come in fully--or are they impacted in anyway? Wisdom teeth are a common cause of ear pain in that area..especially when they are trying to come in, or are impacted. You're at the perfect age for them to start bothering you if they are coming in.
Best wishes!
