New to the forum

Hey ladies, I am new to the forum.  I am an embryologist, and often come across people who don't really understand the embryo side of IVF, so I joined to help in whatever way I can...and of course pray for all you ladies hoping for a BFP!

I am so happy to hear from you!!!  Well 6 embryos definitely is aggressive, but congrats to you on having many pretty embryo babies for transfer.  It is true that the success rate is lower, and since about 80% of eggs are chromosomally abnormal once you are over 40 its not totally unreasonable to transfer so many.  However, we usually cut it off at 4, that is also considering most people your age wouldn't have 6 embies, we might just do it too!!!

If you tell me what clinic you are using I can get you there specific success rate from 2006 -- we have the book of ART success rates.   Our last year, we have about 25 females over 42 and 4 had a life birth (that is considering a number of them miscarried.)

I wish you the best of luck and if you do decide to do donor egg, just remember that you get all the joys, and not so joys of being preggers with a super high success rate (we are 70-80% with donor egg).  GOOD LUCK!

We alwyas do assisted hatching because it does increase implantation rates -- but it does not aid in embryo development.

Does your doc consider day 1 day of retrieval?  We consider that day 0 so I was a little confused.  If so, we do all day "one" ICSI (day of retrieval) and only do day 2 if there were immature eggs from the day before whch matured and only if the person doesn't have much to work with.

Good luck!

Update:   Okay so the Re took me 2 days no stims just lupron and on the next u/s bw day my E2 dropped from 3600 to 1500..then he gave me directions to stim one full day and come back...today i went in (which should be my last appt prior to triggering) and my follies one at 18, 3-17, and quite a few in the 15/16 range.  So he wants me to push one more day....but I am still waiting on my E2 to come in.......he says I could have shot back up and he might have to cancel me if that happens.  So, I am waiting.....any opinion.

HI..  Thank you for being here to give us all some much needed advice!!  I was hoping you could give me your opinion on my past IVF cycles..

I'm 34 and I have been through 3 cycles so far.  The first one resulted in 2 negatives (fresh and frozen) - the last 2 were both chemical pregnancies.  We are now in the process of trying to determine why the embryos aren't staying attached.  Here is a little background..  each cycle, I have a fairly good response to the stims.  I have had 24, 16, 21 eggs retreived respectively.  The first cycle, 12 fertilized, 6 were left on day 3, we transferred 3 excellent embies and froze 3 - both ended in negatives.  The 2nd cycle, only 6 fertilized, we transferred 3 excellent embies on day 3, and left the other 3 in culture until day 5 - which they didn't make it.  The 3rd cycle, 9 eggs fertilized.  On day 3, I had 9 really good embies - so they decided we would go to day 5.  On day 5, I had 2 excellent (but early) blasts transferred.  No others were left to be frozen.  So, what confuses me is that, especially in my last cycle, my eggs and embryos looked so much better.  After my retrieval, they came in and told me that my eggs looked great.  And then, each day when I would get the report on my embryos, they would tell me how great they were looking.  And for each transfer, even though we only ended up with a few left at that point, they have always been rated as excellent.  But, at this point, my RE is telling me that he thinks my egg quality isn't good and that I should start thinking about using an egg donor.  Based on your past experience and the cases you've seen in your lab, what would you think?  Was it a sign that there was a problem with my embryos when they were labeled as 'early blastocysts' or is it common to see these on day5?  Do you think egg donor is the route I should consider at this point?  It's a hard pill for me to swallow that, after 60 eggs, not 1 has stuck.. but I just am having a hard time accepting that this may never work for me.
One other note, my RE is also pushing me to do PGD if we decide to try another cycle with my eggs.  I realize that there is great benefit in this - but I can't justify paying $6000 if we only have 2 or 3 embryos left to be tested.. any thoughts about that.
I know I have asked a lot of questions.. but I can't tell you how much I appreciate the time that you are willing to give to all of us wannabe mommies..
