Hello all,
I was walking on the beach barefoot about a week ago and stepped on something noticeably sharp while on the soft, dry part of the sand. Indeed, it was quite painful. After searching the area around me, I did not find what exactly I stepped on. If I were to assume it was a hypodermic needle (public beach, high amounts of people traversing through), would it be advisable that I get tested at 3 months? What is my risk?
Pertinent information:
1) I was on the dry portion of the beach sand, away from the water.
2) I never found any bleeding on my foot, although there was a small hole where the sharp object had poked at my skin.
3) This incident happened in the middle of the day, not at night.
My questions:
1) Is stepping on a discarded needle considered a viable transmission risk?
2) Would you recommend testing?
3) Have such cases ever been reported?
Thank you all for the work that you do at this forum, I hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you,
