What is my risk of contracting HIV if I am unaware of status

I have been in a new relationship for 5 months. 2 days ago is when we both decided that we should have sex. We used condoms for intercourse, but at one point he slid inside me unprotected for about 3 or 4 minutes and put the condom on. We also have been doing tons of frottage with clothes off.

it is mandatory that before i start a new relationship that the person of interest must be tested. My boyfriend has already tested for STIs and the tests were negative. The only test he needs now is HIV test.

He has a very seedy past. He went to jail for 4 months, but before going to jail he did meth by injecting for a month. I told me that he only would use clean needles from the hospital and he also had sex with tons of women unprotected and including one that was rumored to have an STI.

The reason he can not get the HIV test because he works 8 to 5. By the time he gets off, the clinics are closed. The Sti tests he got done at the emergency room because it is open 24 hours. I want to get the in home HIV test, but I will feel more assured of he gets it done by medical professionals

I am really concerned about his past even though it happened years ago, I still think he should get tested before we stop using condoms.

What is my risk and what is the possibility he contracted HIV. His last sexual exposure was 8 months ago. He is not sick nor look to be. He told me he never have gotten any illnesses that are HIV related.

His grandad is HIV positive and he said that many of his symptoms came 2 or 3 weeks later. He told me if a person has HIV they would know way before 8 months bc the body will show signs.

I'd like to add that your boyfriend gave you incorrect information in the last paragraph of your post.
When first infected with hiv most ( around 80%) people will experience ARS around 2~4 weeks after. This could be severe or mild.
Symptoms last 2 week's or so. After this someone can go 8~10 years without knowing they are HIV positive If they never tested.

The "by 8 months " is simply not true.
As you were already told, only testing reveals one status.

Hey thanks. That is what we plan to do.
Say for instance if he is positive (which I hope not) would I run a risk using a condom?

As long as the condom does not break, you are protected.  Most condoms don't break, but just make sure to use new ones as expired condoms have a greater risk of breakage.

If you are confident that he did not have a sexual exposure with anyone else after his exposure 8 months ago, then he can take a test any time for a conclusive result.  This should be a priority if you intend to have unprotected sex with him.  It's impossible to say exactly what your risk level is given that you don't know his status.  Obviously, if he is HIV-negative you don't have a risk, but you can't tell by looking at a person or by whether they are "sick" or not.  Only a test can diagnose HIV.
However, until he can get tested (and you should too), you should avoid unprotected intercourse.  Frottage isn't a risk, but if there's penetration, use a condom until you know for sure.
