It involves the fats and some vitamin absorbation I believe, which have no effect on retroviral viruses as far as I know. If that were the case, it would surely be mentioned by doctors and would be available as information on the internet. I've found no information like that, and doctors told me no such thing. Only IV drug use, auto immune diseases, or chemotherapy can effect the tests I've been told.

thanks a millions... you know about the way orlistat behaves with the body...and you sure it will not effect elisa testing... ive read that there may be some problems of absorbing some minerals and vitamins by the body... does this effect in anibody formation thus the test...

No, but I've been exposed and have been reading everything I could about this disease and talked with doctors because I'm paranoid and have mental agony like you. I asked every question in the book, well almost. You need not worry!

Jackie, this means that people with HIV can be effected in the wrong way by the drug you are taking, particularly with their viral loads, but it doesn't mean that it interfere with the detection of HIV at all. It simply doesn't. I know it's confusing, but trust me if you don't fit in the categories mentioned above, you have nothing to worry about. Try to relax, I know it's hard. I wish you well and be safe!

jackie,

If you don't IV  heavy drugs like heroin, recieve chemotherapy for cancer, or have some kind of auto immune disease, you have nothing to worry about. So in short: No, this drug does not effect the testing in any way.

Hi Jackie,

only heavy drugs like the stuff they use in chemotherapy "might" affect HIV results. You don't seem to have had any exposure anyway. So, if you ever decide to test for a NON-existent virus, be sure that your result will be reliable negative :)
