Actually, Lipitor is much stronger than Simvastatin and has a much higher incidence of side effects, unless I have missed some new data. According to the links I have Simvastatin is the safest statin on the market.
I think I read a while ago that simvastatin had the most occurrences with side effects, whereas lipitor had the least.
I would stick to what you have, your doctor can get the insurance company to make an exception, mine has.
It is not safe to buy on line, many of these products you see being sold by online marketers are expired product or imitations that include fillers which allow them to makj more product and dollars.
It's odd that Simvastatin affected your liver as it is much less powerful than your current statin. Either way, tell your doctor to get an exception with insurance company, all they need is his OK.
Jon
Your Doctor cannot do that. If your Liver reacted badly to a known medication, your Doctor cannot put you onto it. I would tell your Doctor that you are staying on Atorvastatin and if he/she doesn't like it, you will take it higher because you are not willling to sacrifice your Liver for money.
