Heart Ablation

I would like to speak to anyone who has recently undergone heart ablation as I am in need of it.  My events are not frequent, but severe....well over 230 bpm.  It seems like such a permanent thing, no going back, so many risks.  I am afraid.  Anyone?

I had an ablation for avnt and it went really smoothly.  I was really afraid to do it but when it was all over I was surprised how easy it was.  You can read about my ablation by clicking my name and reading my journal entry.  I will say I was very active at the time as well my rates reaching in the 230s.  The condition wont' go away and could get worse and more frequent.  Do you know how to stop yours?  Do they last long?  Mine would usually only last a minute or so but as I got older they became more frequent and were starting to last longer however if you are able to manage them and get them to stop on your own then your heart isn't in any significant danger.  That said, if it did get worse then we do run the risk of developing congestive heart failure so most people really do wind up opting for the ablation to be done with it.  It has a very high success rate with very very low complication rate the biggest being the path being too close to the avnode and the EP not being able to ablate or the person needing a pacemaker to get rid of the close pathway blocking the signal.  I would say listen to what you inner alarm is say.  You may be scared all around but one path may feel more right or more calming and one more agitating.   Like I said, I was terrified to do the ablation but had a sense of peace and calm that it was the right and necessary thing for me for the long term health of my heart.  If you aren't frequent it could be an issue with the EP being able to induce the arrhythmia which could mean a waste of time but most experienced EPS have a pretty good idea where to look for the pathways so can generally get it mapped eventually.  Since I was so active it took only one try but it may just mean you are in the study a bit longer than I was.  Anyways having been through it I know it is a tough decision and I wish you health and happiness which ever route you choose to take.  Take care and come back and ask any questions you need.

What is your ablation for?  I have not had an ablation yet, so I will let someone who has jump in here with their experience.  I have been researching ablation for my afib.  It is my understanding that SVT is fairly easy to fix, afib not so much.  If you provide more information you will get more specific answers.  Good luck.
