Grrrr. Was just told that the study I wanted to do at Quest in San Francisco is Inhibitex 189 with Daclatasivir. That is the study with a medication shortage. I am crushed. Anyone know anything about these meds and/or the study? It seems like the study staff don't have the time or inclination to answer many questions. Thanks guys!
Funyy, it is not the actual biospy that scares me but it takes FOREVER to get a vein for an IV line, and the whole, "you have to stay here so you don't bleed to death" part is kinda SCARY.........!
The San Francisco arm is not yet recruiting b/c of a medication shortage. I was just told that they hope to have it resolved in August and MAY screen in July.
They will not accept my Fibroscan/Fibrosure/ultrasound results in liu of a biopsy. :( My doctor knows that I suffer from anxiety related to medical procedures and said that due to the invasive nature of the biopsy she thought the other tests would suffice. However, the trial does not agree. I am TERRIFIED of the biopsy.
BTB, I contacted the university I'm working with directly. It helps a lot if you are an established patient of the hospital so you may have to do that first. They have to be selective on who will follow the rules and who will make it to the end (they call this motivated). You can't "just get in" you need to demonstrate that you would be a good trial participant. Think of yourself as a giant lab rat that is lucky enough to get to be in the experiment. This drug combo that we have been communicating about has been a good combo, but there are others that are not so lucky. From what I understand, this combo won't be available again soon (don't ask me why because it works-greed is the only answer). Don't just jump into one, research your head off before you pick one and then only give yourself a % of luck to get in. Believe me, I thank my lucky stars everyday that I'm in this trial.
Thanks very much. The caring and support that messages like yours evidence mean a lot.

Darn, I forgot about email addresses! You can google Bristol-Myers Squibb Customer Relations. Try http://www.bms.com/contact/Pages/home.aspx and click Clinical Trial Participation.
