20 yrs or more and no sores?

I am a 45 years old and married 20 yrs. I have been totally faithful and I honestly believe my husband has been also. I went to the Dr last week for a sebacous cyst from my bathing suit rubbing. It happened to be the 1st day of my period also. I've always (or as long as I can remember) gotten an itch and some irritation a day or 2 before and the 1st day or 2 of my period. She diagnosed the cyst and then said she saw an ulcer near my urethra and that I was very irritated and red. She wanted to culture it and mentioned herpes. I've never noticed any sores before.  I also had a horrible fight with yeast infections about 10 yrs ago and saw a different gyn back then who couldn't understand why he couldn't get it under control. No sores back then. Is it possible that these other symptoms were signs of herpes that were misdiagnosed or that I've had hsv lying dormant for 20 yrs? I am so upset because iy just sounds ridiculous that this could go undiagnosed for so long. Before my marriage I had definitely not been safe with sex but I wouldn't think that would come back to haunt me 20 yrs later. I am waiting for my results to see what the next step is but it's so upsetting.

Thank you for your response. She did mention  hsv1 but he's never had a cold sore in the 20 yrs we've been together and neither have I.. It was  painful peeing for like 2 days after  and I'm assuming it's because she made it worse by culturing it, but now I feel fine so it just seems odd. Could a herpes sore heal in 3 days with no treatment?

What you describe doesn't overly scream a herpes infection.

If it is, then it could easily be from your husband's oral cold sore infection (pretty likely he has one) transferred during oral sex. Outbreaks of genital HSV1 after the initial outbreak are few and far between, so this is a possibility.

Either way, no need for concern regarding fidelity.
