HSV results interpretation

Hi,

I had been tested about a year ago for all STDs and tested negative for everything, including both HSV I and II (<0.90). I recently was tested again and still came back negative for HSV II (<0.90), but had an out of range for HSV I (1.99). Both tests were done using HSV Type I and II Specific Antibodies, IgG. Is there a possibility this is a false negative? I cannot recall ever having a cold sore anywhere. If I do have this, is it harmless? I would just need to make sure if I ever do get a sore to be careful not to spread it?

Thanks.

Thanks. My girlfriend was also tested earlier this week and waiting to hear back those results.

even the best blood tests we have still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections.  odds are you really do have hsv1.

Odds are your hsv1 is oral.  http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn_oralherpes.cfm   is a good link for more reading about hsv orally.
