There wasn't any lesions interestingly enough. They've referred us to an infectious disease expert to see if they can help figure this out. Its just really weird.
a lesion culture wouldn't be falsely positive due to cmv.
Ok so an update. All my previous partners have tested negative. My son however tested positive for hsv 2 in his eye from a culture.
The drs said however that it isn't presenting the way hsv2 in the eye does. So now we're all super baffled.
I was reading and I can't remember if this is correct, but cytomegalovirus can test as hsv2? But then I wouldn't see how that would work with a culture.
Also if its in his eye, and I don't seem to have caught it from a sexual partner or given it to one, I could have it anywhere?
not the best news anyone wants to hear but at least now you know so that you and future partners can take precautions together.
keep asking questions as you think of them :)
Got the results from the 2nd test today. Type 2 was 6.6 and type one was less then .9 so I guess I have my answer.
Pretty nervous about my test results, not sure why. I've pretty much resigned myself to having this. Thank you for helping me! Its been nice to have someone to talk to :)
Oh it changed my post. It was type 1 igg of <.9 not 5
I definitely will post them.
Sorry I meant when I wrote igg of 5 originally (in my first post) that was a typo. My results from that test were:
Type 1 igg of 5
well even the best blood tests can miss hsv1 1 out of every 10 times. if you had a hsv1 igg of 5 originally and now it's negative, odds are you really do have it and the most recent test didn't pick up on it. ( clear as mud eh? )
not having symptoms of hsv2 is meaningless as far as risk to a partner actually. the virus sheds as much whether you have 0 ob's a year or 10. The free herpes handbook we recommend in our read before posting post has terrific info for more reading too.
when you get your newest results, post them here again and I can help you with what to do next.
Sorry, I was waiting until I saw the Dr to post anything else. Also, as a side note I tested negative for type 1 with an igg of <.9 I don't know why I had 5 originally.
So today the doctor said that since I haven't had symptoms the chances of me passing it to anyone else are incredibly minimal without anitvirals (not a license to do whatever, just giving me info). He also thought it was a bit strange that I had tested negative to the type I know I was exposed to.
He refused to do the biokit or western blot, and just reran the blood test.
do not hijack others posts!

never hurts to get a confirmatory test when you haven't had any obvious symptoms.
I think maybe doing the WB is my best bet at this point. Will it be hard to get a Dr. to do it with an igg that high?
if he can get his exact test results to post here, I can make sure they did the right blood testing. all he has to give to you are the numeric results - e.g. hsv1 igg 8.9 and hsv2 igg .34 or whatever they are.
you can also seek out a herpes WB blood test to confirm your own status too just for more peace of mind.
Ok. I heard from him today, they did a swab and blood draw and both only came back positive for 1. Thanks for helping. This is still very confusing.
a hsv2 igg of over 5 usually is a true positive. your most recent partner should look more into his testing and go from there.
Sorry, I guess Im more confused because of my two negatives.
So its most likely I have it?
the army doesn't test for herpes routinely.
at this point, if it really matters and they are willing, your ex husband can repeat his herpes igg blood testing and so can your most recent partner.
He never retested either.
Sorry. Greater then 4 months after the last time we were together. My other ex, I know for sure he had a swab, and I think a blood test too though Im not certain.
He is still with her. He said neither of them have seens any symptoms, or tested for it. She continued to get tested for awhile after they first got together. He med boarded out of the army in Nov '11 and I know they look for any and all med issues one might have during the process. I also tested negative greater then 3 months
