LabCorp test result help...

I just got the results from my yearly HIV test (neg) but this time around I decided to include the RPR (neg) and the HSV combo (see below) since was only a few dollars more.

This is the first time I have been tested for HSV and after ready the forums here I am a bit confused by my test results.
as follows:

HSV I/II IgG                                      12.1   High                index  0.0 - 0.8

HSV, IgM I/II Combination                   3.41  High                index 0.0 - 0.9

I have never had any outbreaks that I know of (assume I would of noticed anything out of the ordinary) so i got the test for a peace of mind thing.

After reading the forums here I suspect that the IgM test is pretty much to be ignored as useless. The IgG test of course concerns me, but I am also reading that the I/II combo test is not very useful either. I got the combo under the impression that it would show me "if" I was infected and then if pos+ I would get individual I & II tests for more clarity. I have made an appointment with my Dr. and will get specific tests from him when I return to town next week.

My question is...from my I/II IgG test reading as 12.1 I assumed it was highly likely that I have either HSV1 or HSV2 (or both), but after reading the forums this may not be the case after all (though not getting my hopes up). So my question is, from my test result of 12.1 should I assume that it is highly likely that I have been (am) infected?

Thank you for your time.

Thank you Grace.
That is kind of the impression I got but I wasn't certain since this is all new to me. Still not getting my hopes up though ( would rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed :) )

When I get my specific tests back I will return and post the results in case someone happens by with the same situation as myself.

until then...

actually you know nothing yet about your status from the + combined hsv igg test. Many things can make it falsely positive too. repeat your testing with type specific igg blood testing and go from there.
