Transmission of HSV-1 or 2

I have a rather basic question that I havent had much luck finding a in depth answer on google. So I figured I would bring it here.
I have a roommate who is infected with HSV-1 from what i remember him telling me. Is this contagious in a non-sexual way from any basic uses like if we share a bathroom together, etc.

I just want to take all precautions for my own safety and health.

Thanks ,
Fuzz

no one should ever share toothbrushes, razors, body puffs or towels - many common infections are very easily transmitted through sharing them. just some basic info for room mates :)

unless you a kissing your room mate, oral herpes transmission is not a risk.

have you ever been tested for herpes to know your own status? 1 out of every 2-3 adults in the US has hsv1 orally. it's incredibly common.

I believe it is orally. I would never kiss him. So that is something i can scratch off the list. I dont believe it is gential. he says he has mild breakouts once and a while.
