question about suppressive therapy/transmission

once you start taking valtrex once daily to reduce the risk of transmission to a partner...when would you think that it "kicks in" or starts doing what it is suppose to do (reduce viral shedding)? I have done so much internet research and read a lot of places that with the use of a daily antiviral and condoms you reduce the risk of passing the virus to an uninfected partner to like 2-3% is that really correct or should i ask where does the 2-3% number come from? any insight or past experiences would greatly help me out. thanks so much in advance.
