confusion!

i've had a lot of confusion concerning my diagnosis --- all my blood tests and cultures have come back negative (and i've had a TON), but i've had two sores in my genital area in the past two years, and the last time a doctor saw she said she was almost positive it was herpes simplex, despite the negative test results.

I am very confused.

the last time i had a sore, i had a high fever and sore throat and white patches in my throat.
two days ago the same type of thing happened to me --- high fever, sore throat, white/yellow patches, and tests for strep and mono came back negative (as they did last time) -- there is no sore yet, but I am taking valtrex because i am paranoid and trying to prevent something from happening.

Do you think these "episodes" with the fever, sore throat, patches, could be a result of tonsillitis which is causes by the herpes i may or may not have?

also, let's say this was a side affect of herpes -- would my sore throat be the virus itself? so, would it be bad to kiss someone?

my doctor is a gyno though, and there have been two sores before that she said looked like herpes --- do you think it could still be something else? despite everything?

I agree, multiple testing coming back negative certainly points that this isn't a herpes issue. many things can cause these sorts of symptoms and some of them are associated with having other viral illness as a trigger.  Since these only appear when you are otherwise ill, hard to better narrow down what is going on with specialists but I'd still ask for a referral to a dermatologist and start the process of becoming their patient so that the next time this occurs, they can get you in fast.

really no reason to be taking valtrex at this point either.

Herpes doesn't do what you said. If your doctor was just a family doctor not experienced in STD's, he/she probably isn't familiar with what herpes looks like unless it's the classic blisters. It's not an easy disease to diagnose just by a red mark. You might have given him a story about a sexual encounter and now you have this red mark and deduction is herpes but that doesn't mean it is conclusive. If your blood tests are coming back good more than once, you are fine.
