in theory it would reflect a newly acquired infection however the non-type specific ones aren't of much help as well as the igm tests for herpes in general have high false positive rates. current cdc recommendations are that it not even be drawn on adults for the purpose of diagnosing herpes. the results of your test are meaningless so disregard them.

i dont have sex with him, just kiss, and after his lips scare, neverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
I tested for herpes because I kissed a man that I met and was my boyfriend, . Another friend told me that 3 weeks after that He had in his lips some scar like herpes. I freeze and became in panic. I get the test but i dont understand the results. Just I want to know ; I have the illness yes or not! pleaseeeeeeeeeeee help me

the herpes igm combination is a worthless test. it should've never been drawn on you. encourage your provider to read the 2010 cdc herpes guidelines to update their herpes testing information so they can be following the current standard of care.
why did you get tested for herpes in the first place? did you have symptoms? how long prior to testing had you last had sex?
