tested negative but outbreak is painfully obviously hsv-1

recently had a herpeselect 1 and 2 typespecific elisa blood test. Results came back negative, a week later i broke out in the normal place on the side of my mouth. this isnt the first time ive broken out at least 4 or 5 times in the last 7 or 8 months. All reoccuring break outs are in the exact same place. im convinced it is hsv-1. I orderd a second blood test waiting for the results. I have a question. Should the test result have a higher chance of turning out positive at or around the time of a break out. and has anyone hurd of Abreva over the counter cold sore cream.

That's the problem when you mention the word "Lips" here. Girls get 2 sets of lips and I only get 1 penis... Life is so unfair.  :(

Not telling your doctor about past blood work, whether positive or negative, isn't very smart. Your doc needs all the information you have about what is going on. You aren't going to "alter their opinion." They come to conclusions and make decisions based on the information they have. Omitting information is counterproductive.

The things you are describing are not even on your mouth. I doubt this is herpes. But believe whatever you want to.

I believe HSV2 on face is unlikely. Def see a normal doctor they will let you know if it could be something else...

just got the results for hsv-1 its negative. waiting for the results of hsv-2 what is the likely hood of having hsv-2 on the face. I assume its similar seeing how hsv-1 jumps around from face to genital region

I wouldn't even wait for the last test results. You can just go ahead and make the appointment to be seen now. Otherwise you are going to have to wait for it to reoccur again to go be seen and it will just prolong how long it takes until you get answers.  If they can't get you in anytime soon - take the first appointment they have so that you can become a patient so that the next time you get this they will have slots to fit you into sooner.

i will make an appointment to see the derma if this last test comes back negative allso. im going to wait and see what he says it is before telling him about the negative test though. dont want to alter his opinion. a bacteria infection would make alot of since i have alot of facial hair i also dont wash my hands as much as i should and have a tendency to touch my face alot. more than most ppl

You also can have reactions to toothpastes too - especially the tartar control, complete, total, prohealth, whitening etc that show up in that area.

are bacteria infections a reoccurring thing. that can reoccur over months.

This could also be a bacterial infection ( impetigo is a common term used ).

Multiple negative hsv1 blood tests are a good indicator that it's not herpes.  A lesion culture would be the best bet though at this point perhaps a visit to the dermatologist for further work up is the best course of action.

they are a short distance away from my lips. about this far away from my lips ---  or half an index finger away from my lips. for now im going to just accept they are herpes. Im sure my second blood test will show they are.

Recurrences usually result in less bumps. Hardly anyone gets 20-30 oral herpes lesions.

Are your "bumps" on the outside of your lips, on your lips or inside your mouth?

The pictures you see on the Internet are usually extreme cases and should not be seen as a normal outbreak.  The appearance of the blisters and bumps can be used as a comparison but not by any means the severity.

Regarding cultures producing false negatives I am actually not sure since I am new to understanding herpes and it's testing.

when i break out it is only two-four bumps or blisters. Some of those pictures on google have 20-30 i guess i got a milder form whats up with this. why do some people develop only 2 or 3 while others get lots

i was under the impression that the culture could result in a false negative if not taken at the right time. Scheduling an appointment is a hard thing for me to do because of the spradoic nature of this virus and time. Also if this were to result in a negative id still be convinced it was herpes. Because of the high false negative results. quick question for those who have hsv-1 How many of you looked on google and saw the pictures to resemble exactly what you have

Actually abreva is very over rated and over priced. It only heals a cold sore up a day sooner than using placebo. Not a lot of bang for the buck.

See your provider today or tomorrow for a lesion culture of your symptoms.  Ask for oral antivirals in the cold sore doses though at this point they aren't really going to do a whole heck of a lot either.  Meanwhile you can keep applying an ice cube to the area periodically to cut down on redness and help with pain.

if the herpeselect is not detecting the herpes but you obviously have some sort of outbreak I would have a culture test done on the outbreak.  This is the fastest and most reliable way of determining what you have.

Yes, Abreva works well and it is OTC.
