Am I weird or creepy if I request a woman urologist?

I've been dealing with a variety of urological/pelvic issues for the past few years. The male urologists I've seen seem to be in a hurry, impatient, dismissive, or too quick to recommend surgery. In general, I've long preferred woman MDs, as they tend to be more empathetic and patient and listen better, or so it seems to me.

But when it comes to this intimate specialty, I wonder if I'll be seen as creepy or a pervert if I ask for a woman doctor.

FYI, I did see a woman urologist some years ago, she performed my Urolift procedure. I liked her, but she retired.

Like most specific requests, it's only creepy if you choose to make it creepy :)

You have every right to ask that your health care needs met by someone who meets the criteria of your choosing. If you're seeking a referral, you can simply state that you've had better communication previously with female urologists, and ask if it's possible to be referred to one. As long as you're professional about it, your referring physician should also be professional and honor your request.
