Hi again!

You could use heel lifts or heel pads to reduce pressure on the heel aside wearing backless and flat base shoes. There are some orthodontic devices/ custom arch supports available that help to control the motion in the foot, which may be helpful. Ice packs, anti-inflammatory medications such as NSAIDS and physiotherapy may help relive the symptoms as well.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply

My concern was preventing the calcification from continuing. I still have inflammation and tight calf muscles. Beyond stretching and wearing shoes without heels, is there anything I can do to stop this process?

Hi there!

Well, though the exact mechanism of formation of Haglund’s deformity is not known, hereditary is believed to play a role in it, especially in people with high arch foot. The theory postulated is that in a person with high arches, the heel bone is tilted backward into the achilles tendon causing constant irritation and minor inflammation. Similar changes can also be caused by shoes with rigid backs or high heels. In response to this inflammation, a bony protrusion develops as a healing mechanism; causing an inflammation of the bursa, related to the symptoms associated with the deformity.
Hope this information was useful.
