Opened growth plates in hand

My son will be 22 in February. He was diagnosed at the age of 19 with Hypogonadism due to a small pituitary gland. He takes injections three times a week of Norvel (testosterone).  Today a workmen's comp dr took and x-ray of his wrist and said his growth plates are still open.  His current Endo doctor said he would need to stop his injections and take another medication to close the plates.  He doesn't want to stop the injections because of the effects it will cause him. He has a girl friend and this would be very devastating to him, mentally and emotionally.  What can you tell me about his options and treatment. Thank you

If your son is 22 and his growth plate is still not closed. He might have issue with aromatase which convert Testosterone to estrogen. Either increase aromatase activity or supplement with estrogen will help.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

It is difficult to comment specifically on the situation without knowing the relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation. This is primarily an endocrine issue and management would largely depend on the complete endocrine profile and it would be difficult to comment what needs to be stopped and what is to be taken without a few primary tests. Ideally management should be aimed to compensate for deficient hormones in a specified order. It would be best to discuss the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with his treating endocrinologist. If in doubt, you may seek a second opinion with another endocrinologist.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
