A Memory Garden

I am going to plant a memory garden for people that have lost their battles w/OVCA.  When I hear of a person becoming an angel, I always plant a tree or flowering shrub in their memory rather than send flowers.  I think it is a nice tribute and it makes me smile to see the flowers blooming and makes me remember the joy they brought to so many lives.

If you have lost a loved one to OVCA and they have a plant that may have been special to them, let me know and I will add it to my garden with a name plate.

I hope it will bring joy to people and know that these amazing people will never be forgotten.............

I have started working on the garden.  The weather here has been nice so I purchased some roses and have started cleaning out areas to plant.  I ordered some plants on line and I have decided to add a HOPE garden as well.  The hope garden will be for hummingbirds and butterflies, the memorial garden will be mostly roses.

Heidi,
I love this idea and I bet your garden is just beautiful. When we have gone to funerals, we usually take a plant instead of flowers so that they can have a physical reminder of their loved one and it is always appreciated.

Lance .. I am so sorry for your loss.  It would so nice if the family and friends of fallen OVCA women could have a site to share their grief and the memories.

Heidi .. what a wonderful caring and selfless act.  May God bless you in your efforts and may I say "thank you" for those who can't speak.  I may try a small version .. don't have much available planting space.

Hi Heidi,

A very superb idea. I hope you will have room for my wife, Nanette Alzona. We're from the Philippines. She died last month, December 1, 2008. Nanette loved roses, red or blue. I remember giving her roses during her last course with Taxol / Paraplatin (first line chemotherapy). I wrote her a note which says 'Hi Mommy, you've made it. I love you very much'. She kept the note in her bag. It's always been there. I always cry everytime I read the card. It's very hard to move on.

Heidi,  what a wonderful idea, Leslee loved roses, in the Spring we will be doing her memorial garden, over 20 thousand dollars have been donated so far, the county is donating the land and helping with the work, she worked for the county for 19 years, it is going to be a picnic area with a fire pit, flag stone walk, benches,  and so far we have promises of hundreds of rose bushes.  Because she had the saying "it will only cost you a smile", they are calling it The Smile Garden of Memory.  Each stone will have a name on it,  I already ordered ours, it says, "Come over the Rainbow with me" Leslee Lucas 1957-2008.  They also want to put up a permanet sign with  their picures under plexiglass,  will put up some pictures  when they get it going .  Marty
