CA 125 question

My mother has stage 1c ovarian cancer and they have told her that her CA 125 is not elevated so they will never be able to look at that to determine if there has been a recurrence. She is going to be taking her 5th treatment on friday out of 6. I am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else and how they go about cheking for it? Is it much harder to detect this way?

Mine is still in the 40's a year and a half after original diagnosis.  It started going back up 6 months after end of treatment.  But PET scan and CT scan still show nothing.  So they want to wait awhile before repeating the CA 125.  I reviewed research on my own as well as being told by the doctor that there is no difference in outcome by trying to treat in response to the CA 125 alone.  I had endometriosis allover my abdomen and they did a lot of scraping during surgery.  I'm guessing the scarring and potential adhesions are creating inflammation which prevents my CA 125 from going down.  I've decided not to live in constant fear and I trust in the Lord no matter how it goes.  I still try to stay on top of the knowledge and in tune with how I feel.  I could not have made it this far without God, family, and church support.

I would imagine that scans and making sure that you know your own body from top to bottom are her options, any new symptom or worry and she should let someone know, but being a 1c according to all the literature is a good place to be.
I am 1c also and have had 5 rounds of carbo/taxol last on on 27th jan.

I have a question for crab08, my ca125 is still 58 after blood test for 4th chemo, and i'm panicing, what did they say about yours staying in 40's??  is it stable??  how long has it been like that??  do you have any evidence of cancer??  I don't understand why mine is still so high as they said that there is no residual disease after the staging surgery and scan, it's a mystery.

I continue to receive exams and periodic scans to see how things are going.  My CA 125 is still in the 40's and they decided not to check it so frequently.  Yeah, she's almost done.  GOOD for her!
