baby leash??

Well I've been seeing a lot of people using child leashes... I alwayz have thought they where terrible and made the kids look like pets and I swore I would NEVER EVER use one but the other day my 2 yr old niece pulled away from my Sil nd almost got hit by a car than god my hubby ran and tackled her but it scared me to death and now I'm kind of reconsdering using a leash when my baby is older but I'm still not sure how I feel about them because you can teach your kids not to run but lets face ALL kids will go through a stage of rebellion where they just want to test you and so here is my question
.would you/will you be putting or considering a child leash??
I'm still a little against actually using them but I know it would be safer... p.s. NO RUDE UN-NEEDED COMMENTS WE ARE NOT HERE YO ARGUE!!

My opinion is I wouldn't get one. I too feel as tho it makes it seem like your child is an animal. And their not, their human beings. Yes some people think its safer and yes children do run off , but as long as your watching them and their close to you, then I don't feel a need for em.

This will be child number five for us and we do use them. We use the backpack ones that are animals that the kids wear.  We love them and it makes it much better when you are in a big crowd.

I on rare occasion use one for my two year old. Mainly if we're in big crowds.  Better safe than sorry.
I know my mom used one on me until I was like 5, but I CONSTANTLY ran off.  I was terror child lol.  I'm not psychologically damaged from her using it lol.

Lol I feel torn between the decission to use them because I hate the way they look I always have but I'm terrified that my baby will get snatched up by someone which has been happening a lot where I live or he will run like crazy

I don't use one and don't see myself using one with our next. When we are concerned about crowds, we have used a stroller or pick our daughter up so she is not underfoot. I think my biggest fear is her getting knocked over or hurt so I prefer methods that protect her from big people.

My mom used one on my older brother at Disneyland back in the day and some lady said what is he, an animal? And my mom said yes! LOL...I haven't used one yet but I also don't judge people who do.

I'll definitely use one. I believe using one and my child looking like an animal is better than not using one and my child running off and getting killed by some idiot driver. All children go through stages where the won't listen. Plus, I'm sure there will be times when he acts like an animal lol.

Absolutely I have used them.  When we were at Yellowstone national park and our kids were very small and we needed them to stay close and not wander off it was a necessity.  A stroller was not possible in all areas of the park at all so for their safety these were perfect and we had many parents and grandparents asking where we got them.  When we go back in a few years my little girl will have one on too.

I agree that im torn too, but I think I will get one just in case, like when we go to street fairs, carnivals, theme parks, basically anywhere with a lot of people. I think its good for that 2 to 4 age range. I could care less what people think, Id rather make sure my kid is safe

I wish I could just carry my kid around or push him in a stroller :-(  he's 40 inches tall and 38lbs.... He'll be 3 next month but he's a the average height/weight of a 5 year old.  Wears all 4/5t clothes. So leashes in crowds are a godsend!

And I think I would be so tired of carying my son around or hearing him scream because he's strapped in the stroller lol

I swore I'd never use one, but we were shopping for baby items and my 2 1/2 yr old LOVED the dog one. I tried telling him what it was, but he didn't seem to mind at all. We kept it for a half hr(him kissing and squeezing it) until I could finally make up my mind if we should really buy it and try it or not. I decided not to bc I didn't want him getting upset once he understood what it was and he still goes in the buggy at stores, so we put it back and he FREAKED out. He finally settled on a teddy bear but as we were walking away, he was still looking back at that backpack lol. I don't think it's much use if the kid stays in a stroller or shopping cart, but if you have a few young kids it might come in handy..until that child doesn't wanna move and throws themselves on the floor..then its pointless and easier just to hold hands. At least that way you can give them a gentle but firm squeeze to let them know you mean it. I'm still leaning towards no, but I'm about to have baby 3&4 toward the end of the year and my oldest will only be 4, so I might give it a try to see how well he likes it. He loves his preschool backpack and he won't sit in a buggy with 2 newborns taking all the room and I'm only buying a double stroller so it might help just in case the babies take my attention and he tries running off..

I would definetly use one. I have one for my son but never used it he never runs away from me in the stores. Being strap on the stroller is good for a little while, there kids and need to walk so using the leash will help us mothers. Ive seen alot of parents use them and i have never complaint on how they look. If i need to ill use it with this one.

If people want to make judgement go ahead but at least the kid on a leash wont be lost or missing.

Ive seen a lot of people use them at places that are super busy like a mall or theme park or something like that where there are tons of people. Ive never really thought of it because my sisters kids never ran off like that. There is nothing wrong with it though if you decide to though.

I probably will, I doubt I'll use it everyday, but it can come in handy for certain situations and I'd rather be safe than sorry too. They get to that age where they can take off in a split second, no matter how well you try to keep an eye and a hand on them. My mom saw a toddler who got away from her parents get run over by a car once...I don't really care what anybody thinks about it as long as my little one is as safe as I can make her.

I always thought they looked dumb, and felt bad for the children who had them on. But with my neice and nephews when we would go to the store, they always took off. I have thought about getting one for my baby when she gets older, but only incase of large crowds. Hopefully I will not have to use one, but if I have to, it's good to know that I already have one with me.

I actually just ordered one off ebay for so cheap(its a ladybug) i figured if i never use it then im still good! My concern is my daughter is getting to that point where she may run off and im getting to that point where im all tummy and soon wont even have a good walk let alone run! ;)  so i dont want to(or know if i can) have to carry her everywhere but i dont want to risk her getting hurt... that kinda thing happens all too fast and i think the little back pack i got her is so fricken cute!! it has the option to take the "leash" part off and doesnt fit much but she looks adorable! and with shipping it was 4 dollars and some cents...so under $5... really if i do need to use it then awesome...if not she can play with it! honestly i dont care what anyone thinks... if they have a problem... its not my problem :) Its function is for the safety of my child.... its not something i would use to get attention?! it really does have a positive function :)
Oh and PS i always laugh when i see moms with the leash but when you become a mom and you see first hand what can happen then its totally a precaution thats worth taking!
