Chlamydia that just wont go away

Been diagnosed with chlamydia 6 months ago, after couple of months of treatment of unspecific prostatitis.
All other tests negative: hiv 1&2, syphilis, hep b,c,gonorrhea and the urethral swab.
Treatment consisted: 1g Azithromicin first day, 500mg the second day and 10 days 100mg doxycycline.-unsuccessful.
Second try: 1g levofloxacin daily for 7 days- unsuccessful.
Third try: same as first one.-unsuccessfull.
Fourth try: Amoxicillin + Chlavuonic Acid 2g daily 10 days.-unsuccessful.
Fifth try: same as first one but also unsuccessful.
Sixth try: 1g Azitro. first day, 500 mg second day, and 200 mg of doxycycline for 10 days.

it appears that the last one is also unsuccessful as the symptoms although greatly diminished are still here.

Will you please share experiences or advice. My immune system is not compromised i'm fairly active 29 year old adult.

Hi, symptoms: watery discharge, pinching inside the urethra, red and swollen urethra, irritated prostate.
Also it was confirmed with a urethral swab again prior the last treatment.

No suggestions at all?

It seems you were diagnosed with significant delay. I heard that this leads the bacteria to progress and become more rigid so maybe you need to continue consulting with your urologist and have it treated/checked at intervals ... You can't leave it live in your genitals as it leads to many complications... Maybe some additional drugs could be prescribed to you along with the antibiotics to increase effect.

Well there is that possibility that some organisms where in a quiescent metabolic state, and the antibiotics didn't kill them.So your assumption might be correct, ill try corticosteroids to induce growth and suppress the immune system + doxycycline to kill the active organisms.will see how it goes...
Avatar universal
Update, i just finished 10 days course of 200mg of doxycycline daily + corticosteroid 5 days.
It seems that the pinching in the urethra has subsided, and the swelling is lowered significantly.

The only thing remaining is thick clear discharge, that comes out when the urethra is pressed, or after a long period of sitting. I'll do the tests in 30 days and get the verdict.

My case if different. There is no discharge when you press but I can still see some discharge on my underwear every morning. This is my 4th week now
Most likely the bacteria still lives, make sure you follow up with your doctor.I'm battling this 1 year officially.
Do you experience itchiness in penis foreskin?
No, if the foreskin is itchy then fungus is to blame.

Update: I got another 10 days of 200 mg per day of doxycycline. It seems that the bacteria still lives, and the saga continues..

Have you tried the injection?
oh, no my urologist is not prescribing that.
It’s actually a last resort, if cefixime 7 days, azyhtro for 7 days, and doxy for 10 days doesn’t work, they use an antibiotic and inject it(painful)
Avatar universal
Well I finished the 10 day course of 200mg doxycycline 4 days ago, and the discharge and pinching inside urethra is back. Any advice as I'm sick of taking antibiotics...

|Update for the unfortunate that are battling the same condition: The last urethral swab showed that chlamydia is still present, so i'm continuing antibiotic treatment:  1 gram azithromycin the first day, 500 mgr. the second day, 5 days 2oo mg doxicycline  and 5 days 100 mg doxicycline per day. Let us hope that this will be the last treatment. :)

Last try also unsuccessful, it seems that the prostate is clear now however,  the urethra is red swollen and there is discharge. Chlamydia is still present.

Hey klamidia, i might have the same problem as you but my chlamydia usually goes away for 1-2 months and emerges again even without having sex. My advice is maybe take traditional chinese medicine  along side your antibiotics to help assist with getting rid of the chlamydia, also having a diet that boosts your immune system, as the antibiotics only stops your body from reproducing the bacteria, your immune system is the one that destroys the remaining.  I am still trying to shake off my chlamydia too but i think there are always some bacteria that remains in your gut.

How long are you battling the condition? As i have discovered that Calendula officinalis flower tea does wonders. I still have the swollen urethra and occasional pinching but the prostate has been relieved. I combine G123, bee pollen and royal jelly + the antibiotics and Echinacea and propolis, I would assume that couple of more treatments or a one a little bit longer will remedy the condition. From the research that i made people have been battling the bacteria as long as 3 years before eliminating it.

Gut bacteria can not travel to the urethra. Also antibiotics are supplied to the gut in the highest concentration, blood also so a surving bacteria in the gut is a lees likely scenario.(i have read the research also). The mkore likely scenario is that because i was diagnosed with a  significant delay the organism had the chance to proliferate and protect it self plus some of the bacteria can go in a quiescent metabolic state making it harder to eradicate.

Update: After consultations with the urologist and examining of the already subsided symptoms, it showed that: the bladder has no signs of pathological proliferation and the prostate is appropriately sized  and clear. The only thing left now is the urethra which still has redness and swelling especially after ejaculation. So i got another antibiotic treatment:
Azithromicin - 1g first day, 500 mg second day.
Doxicycline - 400 mg per day for 5 days and then 100 mg per day for 10 days.
Tetracycline ointment for the opening of the urethra.

Additionally: Silybium marianum as a preventative agent for liver damage.  And the usual bee products for strengthening of the immune system : bee pollen and royal jelly plus Ehinacea. And let's not forget the kefir for fungus and Calendula officinalis flower tea.( i have a mini pharmacy in my home now)

Symptoms have drastically subsided, i'll update in about 15 days.

Interested to see how things go. My discomfort in groin area has come back a little and I noticed some pain when I pressed on the area. I don't know if it's a lymphnode or not, almost felt like a bruised muscle.

No discharge, painful urination, redness or swelling. My guts feel messed up as well. As if I have some gastrointestinal problem going on.

Have to set up insurance to get an appointment with a urologist. So just monitoring for now.

Best of luck to you with your new medication regiment.

hi i hope u r improving,i suggest that you get to a urologist that will DRE you, after they can look at the ERS,the fluid produced, that will tell them if infections present ,a step forward.also they should do a urine test after the prostate massage.the problem is u r using quinolones abx theres a lot of resistance.the major problem is they cant get the abx into the prostate,to do this you have to open the gland up.urologists today have lost the ability to massage the prostate,it was used before abx as a treatment and seems to have been a lot more successful than a lot of the treatments today, that being the case i suggest this, after the prostste massage tellthem to culture the EPS,that will tell u what bugs are in the prostate and then sensitivity test to see what abx works on them.so you then have a baseline, what you have and what works to treat it.then massage every other day whilst you take the abx.that will do it.the massage opens up the gland and expels some fluid, this contains debris and bugs.it must be replaced ...with blood etc that contains the meds.its relatively simple idea and you need to find a urologist that is on that path,in n america they dont like to do that as they dont think they are ever wrong, well if thats the case why cant they cure you??arrogance is big with US docs so give this a try theres a few practitioners ,search the net, florida ventura and a couple of others if not try philippines these guys know their stuff.its cheap to stay there and so is the treatment compared to rip off USA yoyr call!!

Thank You for the advice! I'm in Europe and currently have the best possible med care that the continent can offer. Most of the analysis were done and the only confirmed pathogen is chlamydia, whi h as I'm discovering can be a very persist bugger to kill. However slowly but surely I'm getting there. We will see what the results of this treatment will be.

So i have 3 days left of the treatment and clear tick discharge is back, i assume those 5 days of 400mg doxy were too little, on the up side pinching has subsided. And the urethral swelling has lowered also. But it seems the bacteria is still alive and well.

Update:
I got additional 5 days of 400mg of Doxycycline per day.It seems that the bacteria is now only located in the first 2-3 cm of the urethra. We'll see how this goes.
Avatar universal
No good news. It appears that the bacteria still lives. The discharge is back and also slight pinching in the urethra. It seems that i will have to continue the battle. Will update what's next. I even developed a taste for antibiotics.

Oil of oregano, colloidal silver, apple cider vinegar, turmeric tea. Your strain is resistant to antibiotics, try an herbal approach. tea tree oil on the penis.

Update: got azitro 1.5 grams the first day and 1.5 grams after 7 days, after 2 months break from antibiotics, my symptoms have greatly diminished and I'm expecting to kill it this time :)

Update: after almost 3 months break from antibiotics, very little discharge, and a little red urethra, on the last check up, the prostate is okay, bladder and kidneys too, there is no burning after ejaclation. After the check up we decided, the urologist and my self to have another round of azithromycin 2grams the first day and 1 gram the second, plus tetracycline ointment for the urethra both in and on the meatus. I have no noticeable clinical symptoms and life has become a bit green again. I will update once I have the first negative swab.

What happen did you got tested is it negative am also resistant to chalmydia plzz have an update
I will be testing again in the middle of January after the last treatment. So far all the tests were positive.
What was your last treatment and diet plzz post here
In this thread there is a very up to date diary of all the antibiotic treatments that i have received so far, please read it.
As for my diet: I drink a lot of yogurt, eat balanced meat/fat/sugars with an accent on vegetables, i have found that Indian cuisine  especially curry works well, tumeric, beans, and a lot of crushed and pay attention CRUSHED garlic, leave it to stay for 20 minutes after you crush it and the pour boiling water over it, once it gets war eat it and drink the water.

Am also chalmydia resistant to antibiotics

What antibiotics have you been on and how long have you had it?
Also interested where you are from. Just curious where this resistance is popping up. I’ve heard of gonorrhea resistance but not chlamidya
Am from india...why its not going i had three rounds of azitro and doxy and currently on levofloxacin i didn't think it go away
Okay, let's get some things straight: First chlamydial resistance is very very rare, the condition is called chlamydial persistence, where the intracelular body of the pathogen grows a bit larger in size  due to an extreme immune system response and remains in an aberrant metabolically active form, while in this form, the metabolic processes are reduced to minimum and the antibiotics you drink are not distributed inside the cell(remember it is a gram negative one and it has two membranes), good news the state is reversible and curable with continued antibiotic treatment in intervals. Now here is what has helped me so far:
-Calendula officinalis
-propolis and royal gelly, imune system supplements(as i was the wrong antibiotics for 6 months due to a misdiagnosis, that reduces the white bod cell count and lowers the imun system)
-well balanced diet, (if you starve the bacterium it will enter in the form i was describing)
-curry,curkuma
-and most importantly: Antibiotics, and a positive thoughts, as stress reduces the immune system also if you are uncircumcised i can't stress the importance of the hygiene

Do not quit, i have researched cases of women who battled the bacterium for up to 3 years before getting rid of it. It is one of the reasons i started this subject as there is a small percentage of people that due to the extreme immune system reaction, are unable to get rid of the infection is the medically accepted period of 7 days, talk to me about the irony :), and men rarely share this kind of experiences.

Lastly use condoms, i was using them religiously, and them my girlfriend of 4 years, decided to ride the carousel condom-less, and here we are.  So trust no one and protect yourself, and most importantly don't panic and do not lose hope, better days are coming, your eyes will b open to a brand new reality after this.
Am battling with three years.. Finally I myself lost hope and thinking of suicide due to it plzz comment your option
I am to test in the mid of January, there is no or very little symptoms. Find a good urologist, and follow the treatment.Sop feeling sorry for yourself and stop dramatizing, you are not the first and you will not be the lasts, suicide is no way to go , i explained very well, what is the cause of this, and you will cure it, just don't quit. Start light exercise regime, eat well sleep well, don't constantly think about it, if you are religious pray to your god, but most importantly find a good urologist and follow antibiotics treatment at intervals, and let your body to do the magic. Life will be green again :)
Thanks for your reply I fallow your advise..May be my last hope
Bro be active on this thread...Your can save me...And many many thanks for you advise
I will be updating it, until i get the third consecutive negative urethral swab in  6 months period of time, so no worries...

So quick update, I tested and now isolated is klebsiella pneumoniae and the clamydia swab is positive again. Just as in the Chinese curse 'may you live in interesting times' I'm starting treatment tomorrow cefitraxone for the klebsiella 2g intravenous and doxycycline 200 mg 10 days, after the klebsiella treatment is completed. I'M stomped how I now have klebsiella when all the urethral swabs before were clean but this is the new reality :))

I'm sorry you have to keep going through this.

You might want to consider starting some probiotics since you have been taking so many antibiotics.

I hope this last round of treatment helps!

So in the long battle against this single cell organism, my newest strategy is, circumcision followed by a course of 2 grams of metronidazole one time then erythromycin 500mg four times a day for 7 days. We will see how it goes, I stopped cefalosporins as it seems the klebsiela is no longer present.

Why the circumcision?
To keep the meatus dry and clean, also it will thicken the glans skin make it less prone for bacteria to attach to it, so it will reduce extracellular organisms from attaching and crawling into the urethral opening.
Ahh makes sense.

Keep us posted and good luck with the surgery. :)
Oh it is already done, I'm 7 days post op. today. Though the spinal anesthesia is causing me a great deal of problems, I have never in my life had a headache, now I can't seem to get relieved of it

Have you ever tested for mycoplasma genitalium? Stay off antibiotics for 3-4 weeks, then give your first void urine.

Micoplasma and ureaplasma, I have tested for every reasonable microorga ism that can cause it, the fact remains that the chlamydia persists, as it has been positive for almost 2 years.
So you have a recent postive chlamydia test?
Yep from 30 of January, hopefully, doxy and now erythromycin will kill it with the circumcision removing mediums that can harbour reticulate bodies
If this fails, you could try Moxifloxacin.

Since i'm here id give a quick update:

I'm almost a month post circumcision, and it has healed nicely, my fears of additional infection have subsided. It has been  2 weeks after i finished my 7 days course of erythromycin and metronidazole , and there is no noticeable discharge, though i can still see several small red spots on the inside of the meatus and one side is a bit swollen. There is the occasional stinging  and burning at the tip, which points to a ever present chlamydia, at this point both me and the urologist are hoping that in about three months the immune system will  either spontaneously resolve the infection, or the organism will revers its persistent state , however it is i'll be off antibiotics fro 3 months.

How painful was it as an adult?

I really hope you get this cleared up. It sounds like it's been miserable. :(
Not painful at all, morning erections were uncomfortable, but bearable, the more troublesome were the headaches due to the spinal anesthesia, and walking was an entirely new experience. And yeah I'm hoping it will clear up, I'm starting to eye lymecycline as a treatment, however I don't want to do that to my liver.
Oh I'm glad it hasn't been painful. It didn't occur to me that you'd only have a spinal, but that makes sense, I suppose. That must have been an experience lol. Are the headaches better now?

Are they monitoring your liver and kidneys? You've been on a lot of antibiotics for a really long time. :(
There are no signs of decreased liver or kidney function, the antibiotics them selfs, at least the types that i've used, in terms of toxicity ,are not surpassing the occasional consumption of alcohol, plus i have taken preventative measures  to protect my liver. And all of my life i have been on healthy food and way of living  (excluding my ex girlfriend ))) ). The infection never progressed beyond the urethra. So i should be fine, the only concern is that i will develop an intermediate resistance to macrolides and tetracyclines  , though that is a price i'm ready to pay to get rid of this pest....
Oh and no headaches now, they lasted for 7 days, and i discovered that strong coffee was quite effective in preventing them, so those were the 7 days that in my 30 years of life i had to drank coffee ( i do not like it at all :))
Ohh someone else who doesn't like coffee. I'm often the only one lol. Caffeine helps dilate the blood vessels in your brain, helping headaches. It's a trick a lot of people who suffer with migraines use.

Glad to hear your liver and kidneys are healthy. Unfortunately, resistance is always a concern, but I'm with you - I'd deal with that rather than the ongoing chlamydia.

And lol re: the ex-girlfriend. ;)

A quick update: last urethral swab was positive for chlamydia, since I've been through 2 treatments : 500mg levofloxacin daily for 10 days, one month break, and then 1 gram of Azithromycin first day, 500mg the second day followed by 10 days 200mg  doxycycline per day. I don't think the treatment worked, will update once I test again.

Damn I'm sorry. :(
Hello auntielessi, well its the long walk, at least inflammation is reduced, and the pathogen can't live forever in vivo, it is bound to die someday, I plan to outlive it :))
:)

Good.

So a quick Update:

I got the first negative test :) for chlamydia using direct immunochromatography  method.( I'm happy for my self in all honesty.)

My last treatment consisted of :
20 days 2x100mg  doxycycline per day.
5 days 1x500mg Azithromycin per day.
10 days 2x100mg doxycycline per day.

And then a folklore medicine of garlic and white wine.Boiled together 100ml in the morning and before going to sleep for 10 days.(i was quite against this as i'm not a folclore believing guy but it did improved my immune system and my liver conditions, suffice to say that the enzymes were slightly above :).

That being said, i still have mild discomfort in the very tip of the urethra but it is almost unnoticeable.

I'll be doing the second test a PCR a month from now. To confirm the first negative. and after that if it is negative also a third one.

I guess persistence pays off.

Omg I'm so happy for you. That's EXCITING.

How do you take the garlic and white wine? Do you drink it? I imagine the wine burns off? Do you add water?

I'm so happy for you, I actually clapped. :)
