Negative Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia but still symptomatic

Hi,
I’m a 43 year old male and looking for some advice.
I had 3 sexual encounters with a CSW 3 weeks ago, over the course of 2 days. I received protected oral sex on two of these occasions, and I’m unsure if the third occasion of oral sex was protected or unprotected.
The oral sex was rough enough. While there was no visible cuts, there was evidence of friction on the head of my penis.
Within 2 days I found I was urinating a lot… no discharge. No stinging when urinating, but the sensation of needing to urinate.  I went to a doctor, and wasn’t completely honest when he asked if I had changed partners. He carried out a urine test and said it was clear and that there was no sign of a UTI. All the same he gave me a course of antibiotics (omoxycillin 500g 3 times a day) for 5 days, which I took.
2 weeks after my last encounter with the CSW, I then took a test for Gonnorrhoea and Chlamydia, and the results came back negative.
I still find I’m urinating a lot (more than 10 times a days).
This could be down to anxiety and nerves; I am married with a family but have a very inactive sex life so no concern of passing any potential infection onto my wife for the time being.
I have 1 or 2 fine paper type grazes on the head of my penis which tend to come and go on any given day. I am applying canestan cream daily as my penis is slightly sensitive from all the urinating.
Could you advise me from the information I have provided above whether there is anything to be concerned about from a STI perspective?
I have spent a good amount of time reading previous posts on your site which has proven very helpful but could do with hearing an answer to my specific personal issue highlighted above.
Thanking you in advance for your time.
Best regards

Hi - I'm sorry I missed your first post.

How long after you took your amoxicillin did you take the tests? You might have a false negative on the tests if it was within a couple of weeks of finishing the antibiotic.

If you did a UTI test, they would look for white blood cells in your urine. If you didn't have any, then you don't have NGU/NSU.

Is it possible you are dehydrated? It sounds like the head of your penis might be dry skin. How is your water intake? Caffeine and alcohol?

Cut back on the caffeine and alcohol, increase the water, and if you need to, retest for gonorrhea and chlamydia at least 2 weeks after you finished the amox, though I'd be surprised if it's that.

If those are negative, and you still have symptoms, see a urologist. You're 43, and it's time for a prostate check anyway.

Hi AuntieJessi,

Many thanks for your response.

I took the tests 3 days after finishing the course of amoxicillin??

Regarding dehydration/caffeine/alcohol, I was in a very warm climate during the interactions with the CSW, which was also accompanied by too much alcohol and quite possibly not enough water intake. I’ve equally been consuming too much alcohol since all of this which I attribute to stress etc. I very much hope these are attributing to my symptoms.

Regarding prostate, I actually get my PSA levels checked twice a year and all is in order there.

I might continue to use the Canesten cream for the next week and see if symptoms go away. If not, it may be necessary to retest again in case I did get false negatives??

Again, thank you for your help on this matter.
You're welcome.

Oral sex is lower risk than vaginal or anal sex, so waiting to see if the Canesten cream helps, along with reducing alcohol, is fair.

Turning to alcohol as a coping skill is never a good sign. No judgement - just concern for your mental health. Don't hesitate to get some therapy if you need it. It really can help.
I fully agree AuntieJessi, I’m focussed on getting a handle on that aspect of my life too. Irrational thoughts are ten fold when alcohol is thrown into the equation.
I’ll see how things go over next 2 weeks.
Thanks again for your support.
You're welcome. Take care. :)
Hi AuntieJessi,

Out of courtesy I said I’d come back to you with update. I went and had another test done for chlamydia and gonnorrhoea to eliminate the possibility of a false negative due to initial test being done too close to my taking amoxicillin.  Thankfully (as you had suspected) the second test was also negative.
I am continuing to use the canestan cream for the remainder of this week (that will be 2 weeks) to eliminate any potential yeast infection and to also help sooth the soreness on my penis glans. That said, there is very little discomfort there now. I do plan on using an oil such as coconut oil to moisturise this area going forward. I’m peeing close enough to regular now, with no real stinging. Again as you suggested, I am probably hyper conscious of that whole area due to nerves, guilt, etc.
Finally I just wanted to say a big thank you for your advice and counsel from which I took great comfort in what was a stressful 5 weeks for me.
You and your colleagues don’t get half enough credit for the support you offer on this forum and I for one am so grateful for the help.
Take care.
I'm happy to hear that you're doing better, and as expected, your tests were negative.

Thanks for the nice words. Hang in there, and be kind to yourself. :)

Sorry, I should add, that since my initial post above, my frequency of urinating has dropped to close to normal but a slight burning sensation when I urinate. The skin on the head of my penis looks extremely dry.
I’ve been reading articles on NSU and NGU. Would these show up on a chlamydia and Gonnorrhoea test?
Thanks in advance.
