Can chlamydia stay in your body for more than a year?

Today, my boyfriend told me that during his physical last week that they notified him today he has chlamydia. He is my first and only sex partner. We have been together since January 2009, but have had sex off an on...mostly protected, but sometimes unprotected. He has had several partners before me and said that he got it from a previous relationship but showed no symptoms.

How do I know if he cheated on me? Could he have had it for more than a year? How long can it stay in your system? Can it stay in your system for years or is he lying to me and he has cheated sometime this year? :(

I have not gotten tested yet, making an appointment tomorrow. My boyfriend swears up and down that he did not cheat on me and that it is from a relationship from early 2008 or late 2008? Is there a way to prove he did or didn't cheat on me this year?

Oh, even if he is military, it is not routine to check for chlamydia in men.

It is not likely that he had it all this time and you had unprotected sex with him more than once and you didn't get it.  Though, it is possible that you did get it and didn't get symptoms either.
BUT they don't check for std's in a normal physical unless he is in the military?  Std testing has to be requested unless a person has symptoms that lead to the suspicion of std's.  Because of that, it would seem like he was infected more recently.
