I have had the same thing happen with me with the Azithromycin...I am pregnant and is separated from my husband due to him cheating...I have not had sex of no type in months. This is my second test and I was wonder why and how could it have possibly came back positive. I'm so aggravated by this because I'm due to have my baby any day now....
Be careful of testing for Chlamydia immediately after treatment ends. If they are using the usual DNA amplification type test, it will still trigger a positive on dead cells (since they still contain the DNA). You have to wait at least 3 weeks after treatment ends before doing the test again so the dead cells get flushed out of your vagina and urethra to get a reliable result.
how did u diagnose chlamydia ? is it via throat swab or urine samples ?
I'm a 20 year old female. I found out I had chlamydia in Jan 2016. I took what I believed to be antibiotics for bacterial vaginosis for 1 week, midweek I took 500 mg of azithromycin. Symptoms slowly went down. I tested positive again 6 weeks later. There was no chance of reinfection by a partner (my partner never previously had any kind of STD/STI and tested negative). We've remained abstinent under the circumstances.
Took 500 mg of azithromycin once again, felt my symptoms (itching, cramps and discharge) to go way down. Then they emerged again. Now waiting for my urine test results. Expecting to be positive yet again. Hopefully will try more antibiotics or a different one.
After I gave birth to my son, I noticed I had a yellow discharge. I started wearing pads. This went on four years. Then I got a call from the Health Department. The lady said I had chlamydia. They treated me with Azithromycin, and the discharge went away, but I was reinfected and the discharge came back. Since then, I've tried everything. I tried the Azithromycin again, and it didn't work. Then I tried Doxycycline. It didn't work. Then I tried Levofloxacin, and it didn't work.
I think that will do the trick. I would be curious to learn if it comes back. Assuming no re-infection from your partner, Chlamydia is fairly easy to kill and not likely to become resistant due to the structure of the bacteria. However, there are some cases that supposedly have developed resistance to Azithromycin or Doxycycline.
I was treated with the US center for disease control's recommended standard dose of 1G of Azithromycin, and it did not work. I noticed it was not gone on a trip to Asia 10 days later. Apparently doctors here tend to double up the doses and/or prescribe both Azithromycin and Doxycycline. They gave me 15 days of Doxycycline 100mg 2x a day. That did the trick.
Another thing that maybe helpful to some people is to realize that Azithromycin and Doxycycline work by not killing the bacteria, but actually by preventing the bacteria from reproducing. That means that your body's immune system actually has to kill the bacteria on its own. So for some of us this may take longer than others, and the bacteria may be present but not replicating after 7 days which may be why some of us still feel the symptoms. This should eventually go away. Also, since the body is fighting the infection I would get plenty of rest, drink water and avoid alcohol (as it can make the liver work faster and get rid of the drugs from your body quicker).
if you come back as + for chlamydia again, they should be also doing susceptibility testing on you. it'll tell them what antibiotics to use. hopefully this last round took care of things for you.
has your partner been treated? have you been avoiding sex with them?
did they do IV antibiotics when you were hospitalized?
