Consistently sleeping from 8am-4pm. Any advice on how to reset this FAST?

When I don't have structure in my life, I seem to fall into this pattern. I'm on a holiday now and have again fallen into going to sleep after sunrise, and waking in late afternoon.

There are a number of things in play. 1) every night, I listen to podcasts on earbuds as I fall asleep, 2) after years of this pattern, I have this psychological propensity to believe, "Oh! It's only 2am, I've got the whole night ahead of me!"

I need to get everything reset, and fast. I have some important events coming up at the end of next month that will require me to be back to normal, and I'd like to get there as soon as I can. I have horrible luck with this sort of thing. Should I try to do the "awake for a day and a half thing" where one stays up all night and tries to go to bed at a normal time the next day? The last time I tried this, I succumbed to a 3 hour nap in the afternoon. It messed everything up. Napping is another huge problem for me.

Any advice you could offer would be worth its weight in gold. Thanks in advance.

When this used to happen to my wife and I we would stay up all night and all day then go to bed at a reasonable time. Not everyone can do this (it was really hard and by bed time we would feel like crap) but it worked.

No Naps, Minimize caffeine (Definitely not within 8 hours of sleep) or sedating medications (with approval from doc). Identify your ideal sleep time. Dont be in the bedroom other than for sleep. Titrate back 1/2 hr a week and that should help.
